Certificate of Baggage

I'm told that it is advisable to obtain and complete a Certificate of Baggage, available from Portuguese Embassies overseas, before sending containers of personal effects to Portugal. Has anyone had experience of this?

I've shipped 3 loads of several m3 and its never beeen mentioned. As its EU there should be no documentation needed.

Ah well. It would be coming from outside the EU so I'm expecting things to be a bit more complicated.

To avoid language problems why not speak to the British Embassy about rules for imports into the E.U. rather than specifically Portugal ?

Movements of goods between EC states should not entail any documents save for declaring that what is being transported does not contain dangerous or obnoxious materiasl(i: Katie Price novels, etc)
