Glass/Perspex Patio Roof

I have been trying for some time to get a reasonable quotation for a sloped glass or perspex roof to weather-proof a patio area. I don't want a tile roof as it would cast a shadow and make the interior of the house too dark. A tinted or smoked glass/perspex roof would allow light in to the area but also afford a little shade from direct sunlight. I've seen smoked glass/perspex patio roofs in this part of the world but I'm having great trouble sourcing material in Portugal. The only plastic sheeting I've been offered is a cheap looking honeycomb acrylic material, whereas a recent quote for glass was 11,000 euros!! This for an area of about 6m x 3m. I would be grateful if anyone on the forum could advise if sheets of smoked or tinted glass/perspex are available and if anyone knows of similar work being done.

Hi Sandy

Tinted polycarbonate (expensive but virtually unbreakable) is difficult to obtain.

Your best bet is clear with U/V absorbing/heat reflecting film applied to it.

I don't know where to get it, but looking up polycarbonate sheeting on the web should unearth something.

You could try HOME which is on the N125 sort of opposite IZI but a bit further towards Faro on the RHS.

I found vidroporches very helpful when I needed some glass.

They are in Porches - very easy to find - come off the N125 then almost immediately turn left (there is a sign at the end of the road) and they are a short way down on the right. Typical old fashioned glaziers.
