ACOUSTIC SURVEY

OK, yet another certificate required or is it? Our neighbour, who is hoping to let out his villa once the appropriate certificates have been gained, has been informed that he is also required to have an acoustic survey at a cost of 300 Euros? Has anybody else heard of this, as it is certainly new to me? Any info would be greatly appreciated as our neighbour is here this week and is about to part with the cash. Thanks

Somebody once suggested that the difference between we Brits and the continentals if their "observance" of these myriad of regulation, and our "dogged obediance".

I'm not suggesting (God forbid), that a single one of these edicts be ignored, but I get the impression that some of out Portuguese friends adopt a more smiling laisseiaz-fare attitude.

I must admit, I was surprised to learn of this last week too. In this case a recently refurbished and extended villa had to be submitted to an acoustic survey as part of the process for the habitation license update.

I cannot say wether this will also be a requirement for existing properties to obtain a rental licence, but I will look into this when I get back to Portugal. As far as I understood from the brief conversation I had with one of our architects, the criteria for acoustic insulation were quite high and I really don't see how a property with 20 year old windows could ever hope of meeting these. Then again, they have come up with stranger things in the past....
