I understand that you can get the freeview type uk channels using a 1m satellite dish tuned to Astra.
Anyone know the full list of what you can get - BBC and ITV?
Is a motorised system better?

on my freeview dish i get CNN, BBC NEWS, TRUE MOVIES, BBC SPORTS, DISCOVERY, but NO NORMAL BBC OR ITV Channels etc, you get lots of ethnic TV free as well. but to be honest you would be better off with CABO. TV Cable.or HAVE A LARGE SATELLITE DISH this seems to pick up more channels. makes no difference if it is moving or stationary dish, as far as i know, best to get the engineer to tune in all the possible channels. enginmeer charges about 60 euros to fix and tune in the satellite dish. hope this is of some help. As mentoned best too get the engineer in unless you have the meter to track and save all the possible fee channels.

We have Cabo and it has all the usual Sky News, Euro News BBC Prime in english.
What it does have is a number of Ameican films and Series such as Greys Anatomy, Bones , Cold case which are broadcast in English with Portuguese sub tiltles.
I think we watch Cabo as much as FreeSat.
I think that the number of English channels you would get with a 1mtr dish will be very limited.
A large dish combined with a FREESAT box is probably your best option, one off payment , no subscriptions.

satelite reception BBC etc
In Carvoeiro we use a 1m dish, you need to tune to Astra 28 east and you get all freeview channels ie BBC/ITV regions, BBC 3, BBC4, ch 4, 5 E4 etc etc. Reception is better in summer and can be lost in heavy rain etc but a bigger dish should help this.
Originally we had an Echostar receiver but now we use a sat receiver from Lidl which performs well!
We always use Silva and Sintra to tune/adjust the dish if it gets knocked off signal (its on our roof terrace). They are located opposite Fatacil in Lagoa.
