car importation

my husband and I are hoping to move to the Algarve once we have sold our house in Bristol (not easy at the moment!!) Does anybody have any up to date info on importing our car without it being liable to import duty?
We bought it new in March 08 and believe there has been some changes to the regulations. Thanks.[/quote][/b]

The changes to the regulations have made it harder, not easier. Maybe someone could confirm this, but I think you need to have owned the car in the UK for 12 months prior to your move, rather than 6 as it was, otherwise you have to pay the import tax.

We imported our car in 06, and using a "specialist", it was a fairly painless process. If you do it along with your residençia, it is duty free, but you will have problems if you have not owned it in uk for the requisite 6 (or 12 ?) months.

Check you can fulfill the requirements first, because depending on the type of car, the duty can be prohibitive. (It would have been €15,000, on our 05 car.

Hi

We are moving out there in June and hubby is driving our car down it is a 52 reg and we have had it since new. Our insurance company will only insure it for one month on a green card

Also, our MOT is due Aug and tax end Aug - any advice please??? Thax
