Heated Pool in October

Post by gp »

Hi All,

We're planning to visit Carvoeiro for a week from 19th October. We're planning to have a villa with a pool. However, we're not too sure what the climate is like towards the end of October. Would we be advised to get a heated pool? Is the weather warm enough at that time of year even with a heated pool or shall we save our pennies?

Many Thanks

Gav

 I think you will find if you are serious about swimming in October that you will benefit from a heated pool, it gets very cold at night which brings the temperature down quite a bit, if the pool has a cover then you might , JUST, get away with it, but I reckon it would be worth it to have it heated.

If I rented a villa which advertised a heated pool I’d expect it to be heated in October and the price of the heating to be included in the rental price. That’s certainly the basis on which we let our own house!

I did a couple of lengths of an unheated outdoor pool in February and it was freezing. Luckily there was a warm indoor heated pool to jump straight into. Bliss :D

We have had several holidays at the end September to end of October and havn't had the pool heated. The water is cold but not freezing and once you have adjusted to the temperature it is fine. Certainly didn't put the kids off!

Many thanks for the advice. We are going to get it heated. Interesting point about expecting the heating to be included in the villa rental...most want £100 extra for heating :o

Always thought the heating charge was excessive when we rented. Now we have control of the situation we charge the electricity to run the heater at cost and the guests pay direct to the management agent. Average cost for overnight heating in October works out to about £55 per week.
