the shakes!
Did it bother you ---hp guest ?
Remember the very first one i felt over 10 years ago----was in our 3rd floor apart. in Lagoa -- it was around 1.30 in morning--quite a strong one -- seemed to last quite a while -but was probably only a matter of seconds!
Next day -the local news said it was --point 4 on richter(spelling?)
but remember -the whole aprt.block was shaking ---bed -furniture -all the glass wear etc. I was frightened as id completely forgot that Algarve is on a fault line!
The next day - i felt alittle afraid of walking out--expecting any minute for another one to start!
When I went to CVO that morning --the sea was very angry--was told thats where the quakes happen. Think there'd been some strong ones a year or so previous -that had caused rockfall on CVO praia.
i believe the massive one in --was it 1756 or 1754 ?--produced the beautiful coastline of Algarve.
Remember the priest at Silves cathedral told us the cathedral walls survived that one.

Can't agree more with the last comments, it's no laughing matter in a village which has seen a downturn (like everywhere else) this year. Interestesting to see Gambrinus comments on the expensive thread and possibly how fragile the economy is. The richter measure measurement on this was 5.1 and the less said, the better! It's a common occurance and when you look at the sciesmic records per day around the world and including Europe, it's quite something. The med and France have had their little tremors and more over the last two weeks albeit slightly smaller. hopefully nothing to worry about but certainly nothing to go on about! Mike ,Chistlehurst.

Did you feel that?
Of course Mads is right -"this is" where we go on about things and although it can be bittraumatic to experience a tremor it isnt unsual in CVOs part of the world and our Portuguese friends simply shrugged their shoulders and would say "it happens"!
Mike is correct too -we do get them across europe --with some places very badly effected such as recent times in Turkey and lets not forget the "biggie" felt across the midlands here last year-though they didnt reach this neck of the woods --the tremors were felt right down to I believe within the London area.
We should never be complacent about "mother nature".

boa sorte
Sismo shakes Lisbon, Alentejo and Algarve, without victims A sismo with magnitude of 5.4 in the open scale of Ritcher was felt tuesday to the 06:31 in Lisbon, Alentejo and Algarve, said to the Lusa Agency source of the Department of Sismologia of the Institute of Meteorology (IM) of Portugal. I shake it, that it did not provoke victims, had the "epicenter located about 155 quilómetros the southwest of the Handle of S.Vicente, who are a seismic zone", added the source of the IM. In some localities, the intensity of the land tremor reached the 4,5 degrees in the scale of modified Mercalli, according to technician. This was as I shake telluric sensible in Portugal since the beginning of the week, after sunday to the night the zone of Miranda of the Crow to have been shaken for a sismo of magnitude 3,5 in the scale of Richter, equally without victims nor damages.
