Finally made it!
Finally made it!
Well - finally got to see my new apartment last week. Just got to the solicitors before they closed on Friday afternoon. Then straight off to the apartment to find out what I had to buy before the shops closed. Managed to get quite a lot of stuff from Conforama (thanks to those who recommended this) and the rest of it from Continente. Then back to the apartment. Went to Cantorihlo for dinner which was very pleasant). More shopping on Saturday for the bits we forgot on Friday. Lunch down in the square, then dinner at the restaurant under our building (Marisqueira) which again was excellent. On Sunday we did MORE shopping for the bits we had forgotten on Friday and Saturday (by this time Juan, the owner of Marisqueria, was laughing every time he saw us staggering from the car), then ate at A Gale which was the best meal we had all weekend. Almost forgot, we had a drink at Rascals as well - really nice people who run/own the bar.
In the meantime we met up with Tiago (a friend/colleague of John1) who is taking care of the apartment in our absence, Mini g, who introduced us to an electrician and air conditioning man. It was good to meet people who we had already been communicating with, so many thanks to both John and Mini g (Manuel).
So - back in England now and trying to arrange our next visit. Can't wait!!!
Thanks to everyone who gave advice on where to pick bits and pieces up. On my next trip I am after a TV, DVD player, good value pictures for the walls, a nice rug, 3 piece suite. So - any advice again please!

Hope you had as much fun as we did.
On last visit a few weeks ago we bought a TV/dvd combo from Conforama ( remember to buy a local white ariel cable ).
Pictures from Mestre Maco and Conforama, rugs from continente and conforama.
We put our rugs away for the summer ( as we rent ) but definently need them when it cools down. ( tiled floors are cold. )
Suggest you buy those very dinky sheepskin slippers.

:lol:Elaine. All depends what you are looking for, but there is a huge electrical store on the right hand side of the Algarve shopping centre, I haven't been to the Portimao one yet so can't say if they have one or not.
fmm I think that Worten in Algarve shopping has some great deals on DVD and TV's, furniture is a bit more tricky, depends what you want, modern or traditional, The furniture store just before you get to Algarve shopping (you take the road before the shopping mall) has some spectacular furniture, but we thought it was quite expensive. Mind you when we were looking we wanted older style furniture as out Quinta is quite old and we wanted to keep the 'theme' running.

Conforama is behind Algarve shopping, next to it is another electrical store also on the same estate lighting and home furnishing stores.
We have used Wrrtens as well but always shop around as most store have specials on TV,s etc. usually only for a short time.s
Don,t forget to obtain a Makro card in the UK if you can as they have virtualy everything.
