Where has the water in Salgados Lake gone????

Post by jadzia »

Hi. haven't posted for yonks. We have just got back from a week in the UK and took the dogs down to Praia Grande at Pera this morning only to be totally shocked by the level of water (or rather mud) in the lake there. It was really full when we left and I hear there was a lot of rain last week too so where has all the water gone? The poor birds are looking very confused. I hope it hasn't been drained as I remember a couple of years back they were talking of draining it to develop it.

Any info gratefully received.

Something like this happend last Jan ( all the sliuce gates were open ).

I have never seen so many golf balls or muddy individuals ( including self ) fishing then out of the various lakes and ponds.

Oh thanks, I didn't realise there were sluice gates!! That must be what it is as how else could it empty so quickly. Yes my dogs came back black (and blue strangely) upto their elbows from the mud!! Nice.

Do you mean Pera marsh? We were there at the start of March and the water level was very high, covering the paths in some parts, but we have never noticed any sluice gates, where abouts are they?
