Working in Portugal

Post by Summer »

I just want a breif bit of advice. I have decided I might either try to get a part-time job or work self-employed for a bit here in Portugal. I was wondering whether anyone knew if there is a limit to what you can earn before you pay tax?
Does AFPOP have any advice on this does anyone know?
I just wondered what the basics were on working if anyone can help.

Thank you.

It would be a good idea to check with AFPOP but I seem to recall from my first months working here on green receipts that you pay 10% tax up to €10'000 and then you pay 20%.

One good thing to know (which I didn't) is that as soon as you get to Portugal, get your finanças card sorted out and then apply for your green receipt book. You apparently have to have the green receipt book before you start working (green receipt books are for self-employed).
Also, if you then go onto contract, remember to close your green receipt activities or you might get a fine if it stays open for a year after you have gone on contract.

But as I said, I'm sure that someone on here will be able to help and AFPOP have loads of information too.

Good luck with it all.
