watching last night the very moving bbc film with the above named title about tracing stephen fry relatives, it would be interesting to know how a portuguese person traces their lineage back...are the census records on line? can you go along and inspect birth and death records at the public notary?

many times I see facial features which are very similar here as though are a set number of families where all the portuguese came from

1.As far as I am aware..not on line.
2.Inspection, yes.
3.There is a village in Messines, with some very strange and mal-formed look alike people in.
4.I assume you are aware that the Portuguese cannot name their children any other name than on the State List. Unless that is they marry a non-Portuguese I believe.

Yes folks we are in the year 2006 and I thought that the Portuguese people were now free.
