Funny that Graham. I had an identical thought a few months back myself. I guess thats the problem with so many business ideas today - you need to check hard to see if its really new.

Anyway, I played a bit with some spreadsheets, and ended up with the conclusion that you would need rather a lot of owners to sign up in order to make it viable as a stand alone business. I came up with a load of other obstacles - too many to list here, but my conclusion was that this would be a great add-on business for an existing local car rental company. They already have the infrastructure for servicing cars, off-airport parking, staff to take and fetch cars, and so on and so on.

My biggest gap was working out how to make money out of that idea for ME

The idea seems quite good. Although as previously mentioned it might take a couple of years to build up enough clients to make a profit, plus grounds anywhere near the airport are extremely expensive!
Some villa managers will look after garaged cars for owners with MOT's, servicing, tyres, insurance payment etc.
As for the rental side of things, I'm quite sure that would be illegal....but that is not of my area ok knowledge so??

Taxes and beaurocratic paperwork and fees would kill it dead.....If done legally ..dont forget the accountants fees ...2.5k a year etc etc.....dont forget you cannot employ somebody here on contract without paying huge penelties should they sit around and do nothing and you have to fire them....If they have worked for you for six months it with cost many thousands of pounds to get rid of them.......Dont do it....I did...and it almost bankrupt me...but as an Add On...yes maybe...

I can't imagine this would be more economical for the user than renting a car for £10-15 a day - lets say average of £12.5 x 90 days = £1125 per year............and for that you get a new car every time with no hassles Depreciation alone would cost more than this.

Yes and most people want their car in the june to august period....and not many want it any other time so everybody fighting for their week in July.NO...dont think its a flyer ..plus I agree with the guy about beaurocratic headaches ..licenses etc..AAahhhh

Nice one Roy, the topic gets what it deserves. Far too much chit chat on this forum at the moment. Should be moved but hasn't and that's going back about two weeks. It looks like a "couldn't care less attitude" by the Mods. Hopefully it isn't but.......Mike, Chislehurst. Would have logged on but didn't think that for the umpteenth time there was anything worth replying to.

Hey Guest, I like this chit chat. Shows there are people out there thinking and sharing their opinions just like you did. It's a sad day when you have nothing to answer. Looks like there could be a vacuum somewhere. By the way, I am on my way to Carvoeiro and think it is nice that the gods will have some snow for me to make it feel like home in Canada. I may even think of bringing my toboggan with me. There sure are a lot of potential toboggan runs around Carvoeiro.
