the mysterious case of the missing mudflap!

Post by martin »

yes the police have always been sooooooo hot here on catching car and commercial vehicle owners for not having some piece of paper..a friend who clipped someones wing mirror (didnt realise) and drove off ..yes the gnr tracked him down after 2 months. meantime a neigbours house who were robbed of everything including the shutters, tv, fridge..and the response of the local police well erm - I think you know the answer.

so now we have a local policeman shot dead and suddenly the politicians are worried (see below) what a shame it took this killing to shake up someone up.

(From the Regia sul paper)

Mendes Bota requests urgent meeting with security forces

Deputy reacts to assassination of PSP Chief of Lagos and to the growing climate of insecurity felt in the Algarve

Mendes Bota has requested of the Civil Governer of Faro, António Pina, an urgent meeting with the chiefs of the various security forces in the Algarve to discuss the question of insecurity in the region.

The request from the Deputy of the PSD elected by the Algarve and regional leader of that party, has as his basis "the brutal killing of the Chief of the PSP of Lagos", classified as "only the most recent consequence of a series of dreadful incidents related with security in the Algarve (or its lack)," rendered by the "death of agents of the authority and victims of assaults at gunpoint", states the Deputy in the missive.

As the responsible politician in a region with the characteristics of the Algarve, Mendes Bota assures that he does not wish "to contribute to the creation of an alarmist climate", but, on the other hand, he cannot "ignore the worrying indicative signs of a growth of criminality, or the multiple complaints on the part of an undefended and impotent population".

According to the Social Democrat, he has "assisted in recent times in public declarations which are contradictory to diverse chiefs of public security, officials or syndicates, about the real situation of criminality in the Algarve and of the human resources and logistics available to fight it".

Thus, he understands he must "seek the maximum clarification possible about the situation, before taking any political position", he justifies.

In the meeting now being requested by Mendes Bota, the presence is anticipated, in addition to the Deputy, of a delegation of regional representatives of the PSD/Algarve
