Internet Access

Post by Trish »

I live in Ferragudo and cannot get internet access via cable, therefore, can anyone advise as to which is the best, cheapest and fastest internet service provider to register with bearing in mind that I need the Internet more in the day than in the evenings.

Maybe not so fast, but it is cheap: look for a Clix CD Rom (for free at Modelo). Free access, only telephone costs

we come to Ferragudo in october to live there and we are also looking for a way to get on the internet there. As far as I know there is no ADSL yet.
Does anyone know when or if ADSL will be there?

Broadband

I'm also looking to move out to the Algarve in about 12 months.

Can't afford a place in Carvoeiro, so I'm looking inland, maybe Silves or perhaps Ferragudo as it seems to be fairly good value.

It's essential for me to have a broadband connection and I was wondering what sort of coverage there is in the Algarve at the moment.

Just returned from another WONDERFUL two weeks in Benagil & Rocha Brava. Hi to everyone in Carvoeiro.

Could it be true  ADSL in all of CVO :?:

Check your line at http://adsl.telepac.pt as we have just recieved a notification, that it is available in our remote corner of Carvoeiro (Rocha Brava).

Gambrinus - Help Please!!

I checked my telephone number out for ADSL on the telepac website as you suggested. Unfortunately, I can't read the Portugese reply. Can you translate this for me please?!!! Many, many thanks!

Mark,

The reply confirms that your line should be able to recive the adsl signal, however further testing after installation may be necessary to ensure the full quality of the service.

I am not sure about the installation procedure yet, as I have not recieved the package. I will update as soon as I have it set up and (hopefully) running.

Thanks from me too! Does this mean that Carvoeiro and places like Ferragudo and so on will have access to internet via ADSL? I tried phonenumbers of Ferragudo and of Carvoeiro and they all gave the same message. If that is true, I would be more than pleased!

It certainly looks like they have managed to cover almost all of the Lagoa council with ADSL.

As for the ordering, I ordered my ADSL on friday and they came on Monday morning to install it.
Note: my home installation is ISDN (digital) and therefore required the intervention of a tecnician to install a splitter before I could use the ADSL modem. This costs and extra € 50,--

Apparently if you have analogue, you can get the modem by mail (for free  ), plug it in to USB and phone socket, register and you are off - you only have to pay the activation fee. A friend of mine had ordered his analogue on Friday also, but has not received anything yet. Will keep you posted.

this is like music in my ears. We plan to go to live in Ferragudo in october and ADSL was priority number one! Can you also tell us where exactly we can ask for a isdn-phone-connection? Without that we can't do anything. :D

Hi Henriette

I am surprised that you have found out that you can get ADSL in Ferragudo as I have contacted all the companies and they have told me it is notyet available, even PT. However, I know that Beroli Tourist info has ISDN and has some sort of faster set up for internet access.

Anyway, you will enjoy living in Ferragudo - it's got everything you need and great beaches. We wanted to live in Carvoeiro to start but are now so glad that we live here.

Hi Trish,
amazing, we wanted to live in Carvoeiro too, but we found this beautiful apaartment in Ferragudo, so that's why we changed our plans. We will be in Carvoeiro anyway, because we will work there.

Now we know that ADSL is possible, I don't know yet what steps to make to get it! Do you or anyone else have any idea?

As all the registration steps online are in Portuguese (or I have not figured out where the english version is), I can only suggest that you either call them up - 800 200 079 and ask for an english speaking operator (then keep your fingers crossed)

Or send them an e-mail - internet.clientes@mail.telepac.pt

Sad that Telepac do not cater to the needs of foreign clients yet.

Good luck!
