Carvoeiro after dark

Post by Dark Dali »

What are your experiences and Im not just speaking of late evening or later at night but as we go into the small hours before dawn breaks?
From some research of my own Ive discovered that this seemingly laid back family orientated fishing village can become a completely different place after darkness falls.
People who have the mantle of respectability during the hours of daylight can become entirely different creatures after the sun dips below the horizon.
Do you see the change in yourself when night creeps across the darkening blue sky and stars begin to shine? Are you a night owl and when others have taken to their beds do you only then-come alive; does the Algarvean night excite you?
Maybe you could help me with this research for my dissertation on human behaviour. Thank-you
D.D.

Err..what is this about ??....Do I become different cause the Sun sets...no not really, I'm weird all the time and under the cover of darkness I suppose I do enjoy my odd behaviour patterns....but not because its dark..only because..Ive finished work and have a few euro in my pocket and enjoy other things....

In my experience the changes that occur to people after dark are usually due to copious amounts of Alcohol. Mine's a large one Hic

You don't need alcohol to get excited after dark.Anyway too much of the hard stuff affects a mans performance. Just enough to warm and relax you and 8)

AFTER DARK

Yes, there is definately alot of activity during the night in Carvoeiro. When I lived there I rarely returned home to sleep before sunrise. There was always something to do, or somewhere to go, indoors or out, every night especially through Summer. The 'People of the Night' worked hard during the day and partied hard through the night....

So. Dark Dali, you prowl the bars of Carvoeiro in the wee small hours, in the name of research.

You maybe have a drinkie or two, in the name of research.

I too, have, on occassions, been seen when the moon is glimmering and the sun is threatening to peep above the skline. When taxi drivers are at home asleep and a few stragglers are wending their way home but some of those bars are still alive. Holiday makers experiencing the night life. Local bar workers, finished for the night, reaxing and telling stories of their evening.

A lovely atmosphere, friends chatting and laughing, no one in a hurry to be anywhere.

Dark Dali, were you there too? Blending into the background in the name of research? Quitely observing?

The highlight of my holidays in Carvoeiro after dark is Jailhouse!
Im really hot for that on a Friday night, specially after my gourmet meal of scampi and chips and large jug of Sangria. Its the creme de la creme without doubt!
But I could do without some of the floozies that show themselves off in there at every given opportunity. They leave nothing to the imagination in their mode of dress and on my last visit I remember two such creatures as they sprawled invitingly on the lower stairs and seemed to roar out loud with laughter every time I passed by and I dont know why!
All I can say is Im a modest woman but I could feel the leering eyes of all the men there that were propping up the bar, as I swept passed and I drew my trusty cardy up tight around my voluptuous body, hiding it from their lascivious staring.
I know when Im wanted, lusted after. But nothing and no man will ever separate me from my woolies. Not even after dark.
Ill be there again next Friday the 14th!
I hope this helps you with your research Mr Dali?

This is becoming most interesting and thank-you mr Dor and mrs Cardigan for your welcome contributions.
Yes mr Dor (or may I call you Salva?) I have been carying out my own research as I believe its essential to have first hand experience of ones subject.
I have watched the weary bar person as they stagger their way to the crossroads in front of the praia, tired out after too much elbow lifting( and in the case of the female variety) too much laughter. Then stand, wavering slightly in the sea breeze, trying to focus and get brain into gear pondering "Which way is home?"
A tall stranger passes by "You alright love?" the cry goes up!
"Taxi?" comes the faint feeble reply.
"No darling but Ill give you a piggyback if you like?"
Roars of laughter from the good Samaritan!

Thank-you for helping me with this research into the psycological and behavioural patterns of Homo erectus but I would like to ask your opinion on a recent case which I found quite fascinating,
From my seat in the far corner I was drawn to the figure of a man who took frequent gulps from his large glass of Guinness. His eyes, the colour of glazed blackberry tarts flicked over his adjoining neighbours. He smiled broadly, nodded then suddenly turned to the wall(which had till then supported his back) and started a full blown conversation with it !Any thoughts?
Oh and another question. Should one begin at the LSD or finish with the LSD?
Thank-you-D.D.

A very interesting contribution from Mrs Cardigan, I think I have seen you in the Jailhouse, the cardie is a bit of a giveaway. But surely you can forgive the male of the species their lustful looks, they are on holiday too!!

Dark Dali, the dark stranger you see furtively talking to the wall, maybe he just knows something you don't. Did you even bother to ask if he would introduce you, that wall would have some facinating stories to tell, very good for your research.

The very late night life of Carvoeiro is beginning to show itself, I will watch this subject with avid eyes. 8)

Yep, always started in LSD (powers and absinthe lined up on the bar), then maybe Oficina (Do they still do that drink where u have to wear a crash helmet and be hit over the head with a baseball bat as u knock it back?-think it was called 'starter motor' but in Portuguese).

Or perhaps on to Charlie Parkers, Mitch's, Long bar, the one below the Post Office, Mirage, Absolut Bar, Zeca's, Bianca's Pink Palace, Tropical Bar, Kareokee Bar below the Chinese, or Synphonia Bar.

And when they were shut... hang out on the praia, patio, square or sometimes even the Bote!-if I had 1000 escudos left! :D :D :D

Thankyou mr Dor>you have given me much food for thought or should I say details for my dissertation!
So,you think I should carry out even more detailed research and return to that bar? Try to get an interview with said wall? Or perhaps persuade the guy with the blackberry eyes to translate for me?Think glasses of the black stuff may help.
But I see we have a practising night owl here with BIFA and although Ive frequented the Oficina bar have yet to see the mysterious ceremony of the crash helmet & basball bat
Is this carried out on any particular date please? Halloween or Michaelmas?
It seems a very quaint and dare I say medieval custom? As is the ritual 'foaming' carried out at the Bote. But intrigueingand most interesting material for my thesis on Homo erectus!
But I do believe mrs Cardigan could be in some danger here,by broadcasting the fact that she will be attending Jailhouse next Friday night. There could be a flocking of the male species to said place in order to witness this alluring vision of a Jezebel in a jumper!
