Hi,
I played the Carvoeiro courses earlier this year. Pinta was probably the most challenging course but a little scruffy in places when we were there. Gramacho is also quite nice, but you can tell which are the new holes as they are little open and uninteresting. We played Val do Milho one evening in about an hour which is an excellent little par 3 course. I'll certainly be playing them all again when I'm back over.
Other courses in the area.
Penina - very good, but probably pricey
Palmaras - very good
Boavista - other side of Lagos is a newish course (2 yrs) but a very good test.
There are loads of course up at Villamoura (20 mins away), Old (superb), Pinhal, Laguna, Vila Sol all of which are different and generally pretty good.
Then you also have the expensive San Lorenzo, Quinta Do Lago and Vale Do Lobo courses which probably rate as some of the best courses in Portugal if not Europe.
Depends what kind of golfer you are and how much you want to spend.
