Exact location........Is 4 miles NW of Senhora do Verde.....or about 6 mls NW of Penina......They dont have all the Portuguese licenses yet although they do have the blessing and approval of the FIA.....They also have tremendous opposition from foreigners here whilst the local Portuguese generally approve.....having talked to the Directors of the Company recently they seem pretty sure it will go ahead.......I have my reservations ......but then as usual the general public have no say...so if Mr.' Powers that be' want it....( Lots of money in this ...millions) then it will go ahead.....What do you all think.......I'm very interested...I have farm right nxt to it.....we had a similar post some months back and the expats that live near to it came on real strong and talked about 'Green'....Environment...etc etc........whilst everybody else that lived away from it..generally approved..or came on strong about Portuguese rights..........so the Moral of the Story is ....all these so called Green Party types only give a dam if it's in their back garden....If not.....they are no longer 'Green'..........so my opinion is..let the Portuguese choose because the foreigners only care if it effects their pocket..........if not...they are suddenly ..not concerned........

And one wonders why I live with Dogs instead of Humans.......

Hi Guest, I couldn't presume to comment on wether I think the F1 circuit will be good for Portugal or not. I live in the Uk but have a property in Carvoeiro, Are there any members who live near a circuit anywhere in Europe that could comment on the effect it has on the surrounding countryside and economy?. I can understand the local people in Portugal being pro it, as I have already been asked about by friends who have never been to Portugal before about it, but would be interested in visiting if there was a circuit. How close will it be to you Guest?, you say you have a farm, does that include livestock?, that may be disturbed?

Interestig cos the Dog rescue outfit is currently in the area earmarked for the Car Park area of the proposed Piste......and have you noticed how all the old roads leading to the proposed F1 track have recently all been re-surfaced with nice new Tarmacadam-----------and has anybody read how the Alvor Airport has recently been advised that Camara Municipal are studying a proposed second runway to take aircraft diverted there for the new F1 track.....Mmmm it seems things are moving ahead ..without anybody realising..personally I find the whole thing rediculous...and anyway who the hell would really want such a silly noisy..polluted ...thing

I'd love it. Most circuits have pretty restricted use, certainly not cars racing round all day.

I live near Goodwood. This is now probably the premier historic track anywhere, but only has two major events a year. It has other much smaller club events which are generally free entry. The circuit is also an airfield and the aircraft definitely make more noise than the cars. http://www.goodwood.co.uk/

The two events now attract around 100,000 visitors each which must bring a lot of money in.

We also now have the rolls-royce factory. This must have been influenced by the circuit and its status. Building a car factory in Chichester would be a pretty strange thing to do otherwise.

Im not informed enough as to the ins and outs of this....so can only speak of my feelings..and that is..
the very thought pisses me off...upsets me...
but I have a love/hate (more hate) relationship with cars anyway..If i could do without one I would....
noise ...pollution..stench....
I don't know Alvor well at all....only been to visit Magna Carta bookshop and local beaches...which I thought lovely..
and that the A Rocha wildlife 'sanctuary' is in Alvor estuary.....
Im a nature lover first & foremost and 'emotions' come into this so I can't be that 'logical' Im afraid.......
I love Algarve..but its quite a small place isn't it and I worry very much how its being carved up..
Do people simply sit back and let things happen now? Is there no backbone left.....does the 'greasing of palms' let everything & anything happen?
Sorry ..but Im  and :x

I can't actually find any information at all which would point to F1 in Portugal. Basically races go to the people with most money. I can't see F1 in the Western Algarve at all. Surely doing up Estoril would make more sense, but only if they could raise the cash which I doubt.

Estoril is to close......
maybe not cars racing around every day...But practice days for all classes inc F1 ..and of course the very noisy Bikes will be there praticing most days and Go Karts.not the Chugg chugg ones but the two stroke 23000 rpm ones that race internationally and practice all the time.....I live near Silverstone.....Wow the noise on race and practice days can be heard for miles.as can all the little aircraft flying into a nearby airfield...and as you correctly say Money is all...greasing palms etc is a way of live in Portugal....and Bemposta are huge...( The Company spearheading the F1 track)....As for the bird sanctuary at Alvor..who cares ..nobody except the Green Party there who have tried without success to limit the overflying aircraft...or divert them the other way.....but ..one should understand that Pennina is the 'Other way'.....musnt annoy a Golfer..but OK to wipe out the birds......and finally......Of course the local municipal likes to expand that sleepy little runway....they rcv money on every single litre sold to fill the aircraft...I'm not talking of VAT or Government tax..I'm talking of a nice little percentage paid on top of all that..for every litre sold.direct to Portimao Camara.......So my friends it is to happen anyway and nothing you do will stop it unless foreigners and locals march together...fat chance of that............yes the western algarve is to change forever unless we stand up and be counted...now......

The circuit will be a very slow one anyway, without the cars getting out of 1st gear as the Portuguese Government are planning to put tolls on it.
The tolls are only 2 ft high, so Raikkonen etc can reach out with their €5.

Such is this Government....................

Right, I would have thought that if there was any chance of another F1 track in Europe that the motor racing fans would be talking about it a lot.

So you obviously havn't been down to Alvor Airport recently to see the construction of the massive new Hangar and the 707 they are using for test runs...I was told it wasnt quite long enough but you will also note the runway work already going on and the colourful signs going up for the first promotion of Sagres flights by a new company...( Think it was called something like
AIR 4eyes )
