Tivoli Almansor/Quinta Dos Oliveiras

We're planning a return to the Algarve in July and was wondering if anyone has knowledge of the Tivoli Almansor and Dos Oliveiras and how they compare to the Carvoeiro Sol (my husband stayed there with his 2 daughters). Last year we rented a townhouse at Quinta Do Rosal and really liked it but the changeover day is Thursday/Saturday which isn't convenient this year. I like the idea of staying in town and being able to wander back from the restaurants but a comfy double bed is a high priority and they only seem to have twins b/rooms in the CSol. Any thoughts most welcome as I want to book something soon and get some sun!

The Tivol Almansor is a lovely hotel, very comfortable with good beds and rooms. Personnaly, I would prefer it to the Carvoeiro Sol, which I found to be very noisy at night, yes the convienience is good but during the summer the town does get a bit rowdy late at night. Don't know if that helps at all.

Hi Starling,
We have just returned from the Almansor Hotel. It's an excellent place to stay. Everything about this hotel was first class. A little bit of a climb out of the town but well worth it. They have a coach to the center and back 3 times a day, so you don't have to hoof it. We walked up as far as the FINO Cafe on the left at lunch time and stopped there for Chicken Sandwiches. Great!
Highly recommend it.

Would have to agree, the Almansor is a lovely hotel. The rooms are large and beds comfortable, try and get a room over the sea as the views are fantastic. Food in the hotel is good but there are numerous restaurants within walking distance without having to walk right down into town. My husband stayed at the Sol on a golfing trip. It is in a great location but not in the same class as the Almansor, although they are both rated as 4*.

The food at Almansor is atrocious. Go to restos in the area. Even for breakfast! Enough said.

The Almansor do a 'Carvery' in the evening, but who wants to eat at the common trough! We always had 'Al a Carte' and never had any complaints.

I suppose you will complain next that the water in the outdoor pool wasn't warm enough for you, poor darling

Thanks to Charlie, Dalcassian and Lesley Jean for your swift responses.
We're booked into the Almansor and really looking forward to it. We like to eat out when on holiday and it's just an added bonus if the hotel you're staying in has a great restaurant

In any case, there are plenty of places to choose from in and around Carvoeiro.
