Speed Limits

Post by Graham »

I have just hired a 9 seater H1 - seems like a good vehicle but a sticker on the dash says 'It is the law in Portugal that this vehicle is driven on the right and does not exceed 90kph"

Is it really true that I am classed as a lorry and have to crawl around on the motorway in the slow lane?

Very odd :?

Hi Graham

We hired one of those last Autumn, the children nicknamed it 'the plane'
It was enormous, and believe me, you won't be able to get it to above 80', one word of warning, avoid some of the smaller towns with narrow streets, I remember one pretty hairy drive around Alvor :o

Perhaps you left the handbrake on Tricky  - didn't seem to have any problem doing 120kph on the motorway yesterday.

However, I note on yor car hire that they decline to pay for accidents if:
you have been drinking or doing drugs (fair enough)
you don't get a Police report (pretty common) and
if you are doing over 90kph - so effectively your insurance cover seems to be invalid on the motorway even if you are doing less than the speed limit :? This does not seem to be reasonable and I wonder how many people are aware of it?

Any comments Steen?

Graham

PS I don't know if anyone else has spotted the typo on the receipt, but it seems yor have been very charitable and are helping to 'save the florest'. (picture of a tree alongside may give a clue to what they mean!)

What's wrong with us florests? Don't we warrant saving? Not very PC is it? :D

Hi Graham,

I am investigating...

Could it be read so as the insurance doesn't cover when the speed limits are exceeded?

Well I don't know about 9 seaters and over but I hired a Hyundai Getz (don't think you can get a smaller car! lol) and that same sticker was on the car so I guess it's valid for any hire car whatever the category.

All cars, mini buses included, may drive up to 120 km/h on motorways.
All cars are insured up to the legal speed limits, but not above - when it can be proved...

Thanks for the rapid response as ever Steen - most reassuring (though the yellow sticker on the dash stating otherwise is therefore a bit odd)
