Once again I've just enjoyed Nigel's newsletter..and I agree with Heini that it is of real importance to those who are not there most of year..keeping us up to date with all the goings on in our favourite spot!

However I do feel real concern about the prospect of '4' more large supermarkets in the Lagoa vicinity..and what damage it will do to the small shops.. some of whom have struggled to keep going since the Intermarche was built..
Some Portuguese friends of mine had to close their small mercado in CVO a few years back because of dwindling business...they have another in Lagoa(which..on the occassions I've been business has been very quiet)..
what hopes of their survival (and other small businesses)when these other giants open up?
