Just back from a two week holiday in Carvoeiro. First visit to Algarve. Wonderful coastline, great weather, lots of history and culture within short driving distance. Locals not very friendly or helpful - best service was at La Mona Lisa Restaurant - friendly, chatty staff. Watch out prices for cocktails in Hotel The Palms - double that of the village i.e. 6 Euros in village 3.50 euros. English run as well - what a rip off!

I thought Wilkinson (guest) was simply reporting his experience which he is both entitled to and this forum as a whole encourages.

Unidentified guest, I thought you were just down right rude and you did it anonymously - I hope you are not someone I usually respect on this forum who just couldn't be bothered to log in. Additionally you better be British or have visited Britain and have had that experience - how ignorant :!:

If you are a regular forum user and this is how you respond to guests you make me ashamed to be a member

Wonderful coastline, great weather, lots of history and culture within short driving distance
4 positives and one criticism Wilkinson wrote. . . five criticisms on yours, must say I am very much looking forward to reading the equivalent 20 positives - god you have made me so cross

I know your response is funny Bica but I am still trying to retrieve my sense of humour from the back of "guest's" throat, while secretly hoping that it or my fist chokes him/her

I agree with Maddi. The guest was only saying how he saw it, unfortunatly he had a bad experience this time but i hope it wont put him off going again. There would be alot of people on this forum who could vouch for the very warm welcome we get from the people of carvoeiro every time we visit. Ive been going for 18 yrs and can honestly say ive always felt very welome.
It will be interesting to see if the guest will stand by his/her convictions and let us know who they are, after all Wilkinson wasn't afraid to let us know who he is.
But all said and done this is a forum where people are entitled to thier opinions and just because you dont like what they say they shouldnt be treated so rudely. Dont forget we all have manners maybe some people should use them :!:

Wilkinson, don't take it too badly, no matter where you go where there is
a large influx of tourist you will find some who will treat you shabbily,
Carvoeiro is not exempt to this situation.
Apparently "guest" whoever he or she is has a very thin skin.
Still in all, Carvoeiro and the rest of the Algarve is a great place to
vacation, please come back soon. :)

I too have just returned from Carvoeiro. This has been our seventh visit, but this time we brought our children and grandchildren to share with them our ongoing enjoyment of the area. Without exception we were warmly received by all the locals and well looked after. Could it be that the relaxed disposition of we Irish makes us more in tune with southern european temperaments ? Is there a Portuguese word similar to to the Spanish word manana, and is it too more urgent than our Irish equivalent. All you who are concerned about friendliness should visit the restaurant ROMA, where you will be greeted like long lost friends, and the food and ambience will guarantee a wonderful evening. Yes the prices have increased as the Euro has strengthened, but still great value everywhere.
