Restaurant for 40th Birthday dinner

Post by allocj »

Hi All,

I have arranged a surprise trip to CVO for my wifes 40th with family friends at the beginning of Feb and was looking for a good/special restaurant that can accommodate 10 of us and perhaps arrange some kind of birthday cake. I have visited CVO a few times but don't tend to keep a note of where we eat. I've also read some of the reviews on the 'restaurant' guide and l'Orange seems to get a pretty good write-up but was perhaps looking for somewhere we could walk to and stagger back from! Saying that not opposed to jumping in a couple of taxis. Was originally thinking of the Italian above the square but have been put-off my some of the comments.

Any recommendations much appreciated.

I'm not sure whether L'Orange will have re-opened in Feb, they are still closed at the moment.

Where are you staying (to help with the walking distance....)

Venue for Birthday party

There is only one place - Julios on the edge of Vale do Milho on the way to Rocha Brava.

Plenty of room in nice surroundings, great ambience and excellent food - give Helder a ring and he will arrange it all for you.

Have a great evening.

Agree, NOT Julios. Suggest you do a search of all the comments written on this forum over the past year. Otherwise you might regret it!
Have a nice evening

We are there for a long weekend from 3rd to 6th Feb and staying in the square at Carvoeiro Sol.

So one says Julios but another says 'don't do it'. I know its difficult and all down to personal preference/experience but thanks all for the quick replies.

So kteee will L'Orange still be closed?

Thanks
Jason

Without a doubt, O Cantino, up the hill on the right and they will do a cake. Mike, Chislehurst

I had my 50th birthday dinner at Maxime and in 2003 we had our 23th anniversary there; all was perfect! They surely can accommodate you and your party. If you want contact details just send me an email or PM. [I'm not sure if they are open in february, but I can find out for you]
(My second choice would be Chefe Antonio)

It's 2005 and all the same old moaners are still here - Julios is not type of Restaurant that suits all - especially those who do not have the courage of their convictions to tell the owner of their dissatisfaction when they are there.

Maxines is a very good restaurant but they always close until mid February. Give O Cantinho a wide berth - it is a souless place. If Lanterna Velha is open they will give you an enjoyable evening.

Whatever you do please post it on here so we have another point of view.

Happy New Year and Happy Birthday to your Wife.

I’ve been to a number of birthday dinners in restaurants in Lisbon, and the Portuguese here always buy a cake of their choice and take it along with them; give it to the waiter on arrival who will produce it at the end of the meal….

Restaurant for 40th birthday

Post by Alison »

I would go to the Bon Bon if you want a 'special' meal - nice ambience, log fire in middle, posh table layout etc and good food but is up in Seismarias so taxis needed. It is not 'buzzing' with atmosphere, just a quiet civilised meal - but with 10 of you you'd create your own atmosphere !

If you want somewhere to walk to I would go to Chef Antonio (just up restaurant hill on the R or O Patio - opposite your hotel).

Good luck and hope you have a great weekend.

We like to go to Ele & Ela's. It's just along from your hotel so easy to walk to and I'm sure it is opening again on Feb 1. It's small and cosy in the winter and the food is good. We've had a couple of birthday celebrations there and they made a cake for us. Have a lovely time wherever you decide to go. SB
