Great Report

Post by maddi »

Some of you may remember an age ago a really bad write up about the Algarve on the Holiday Truths website which was unfortunate because it has about 10,000 registered users, large numbers of guests and at any one time there is usually 100 people browsing - well spotted this one on there today which is briliant and great news for this site too!!!
We went to Carvoeiro in April this year and had a great time. We first went there 20 years ago and stayed in a delightful villa near the lighthouse. This time we stayed at the Almansor Hotel. Carvoeiro had changed considerably between the two visits but it wasn't over-developed and still retained its village charm.

Look at http://www.carvoeiro.com/, there's a wealth of information on there about restaurants, beaches, other towns nearby, car hire, shopping - anything you might want to know. The regulars on the forum there are very friendly, if you have a specific question, they'll try and answer it. And naturally, if you search the forums here, you'll also find comments about Carvoeiro.

Hope you have as good a time as we did.
So "eviljock" of Sheffield, if you are one of us, please reveal yourself and if not then what a very warm reception we must have given him as a guest to this site.

Thank you for your kind comments Maddi. I was happy to post the comments on Holiday Truths and direct people to this website. We found the information here extremely useful when planning our trip. It helped make our visit all the more magical. A big thanks to you and all the contributors who make this such a unique resource.

Hi Michael.

I joined this forum as a member in March 2004 when we were putting together our trip to Carvoeiro. I think if you're going to make use of a forum, you should join and not lurk around as an anonymous guest. Anyway, I've posted odd bits and pieces since the holiday with opinions on some of the eateries, the hotel and so on.

And then I go and forget to log in so my posting goes in as anonymous guest. Oooops!! Sorry.

I never log out. I just close the web page and, when I come back later I am still logged in. Of course, if I come back months later I am not, but it's never that long. :)

You can't please everyone

Post by eviljock »

In the same thread and forum as I posted my positive remarks about Carvoeiro, this appeared recently:

"We went last summer, having stayed in Praia da Luz 2 years before. I preferred Luz by a long chalk - Carvoeiro is just a little England by the sea, filled with ex-pats and villa owners and doesn't feel Portuguese at all."

Maybe he went to another place called Carvoeiro?

cvo has a lot of charm ….I suppose what I like about it is the “ex-pats and villa owners” people who have made it their home give the place a certain feel…….whereas other resorts on the Algarve coast don’t actually feel very Portuguese and don’t feel much else but touristy
Anyway the author is, of course, over the top with “little England” …..and to say it “doesn't feel Portuguese at all” …well… it must feel very Portuguese to someone who doesn’t live in Portugal and apparently is only familiar with Luz.
