security fiasco

Post by the limey »

Well, there's your answer, Mr Bin Laden! If you want to confuse every bobby in sight, and earn yourself the reputation of killing one or more of the British Royal Family, dress up as Humpty Dumpty, Mr Blobby or Peter Pan, and then scale the walls of Buckingham Palace with some Semtex in your pocket. Don't fear that you may be shot, because the security forces will merely assume that you are protesting about something.

Once again we find ourselves the laughing stock of the world!

I don't think so. I imagine a lot of people have more interesting or important things to concern themselves with.
Of course if you are referring to Sun 'readers', you are probably spot on.

….yes…so Sun readers imagine that should a terrorist organisation choose to do away with some royalty, or say, a couple of hundred railway passengers, they would face problems

I don’t think so….

Sun readers would be so shallow that they think that someone climbing in Buck House makes us that laughing stock of the world. I would think that the vast majority of the world would not have heard of it, and if they had wouldn't give tuppence.

Absolutely, worthy cause too.
My argument was solely that in a world context this is somehow 'important'. Personally I would put Sudan, Hurricane Ivan, Americans running around with assault rifles and about 1000 more things higher up the scale. It's a shame when people actually think that Sun/Hello magazine, 'celebrity' stuff actually matters a damn in a global sense.

and I suppose my point is this: we could have snipers on the roof, and keep the royal family in a bunker…..but that fact that we don’t is not laughable

Now that's a good idea.

Regarding the subject of that chap climbing the walls of Buckingham Palace dressed as batman campaigning for rights for fathers - the TV said this morning that imagine how embarrassed his children must be  Unfortunately, many people think that they are doing the best thing, only to be the source of phenomenal embarrassment to the people they love the most

In fairness that guys kids are never really going to be in doubt as to weather he wants to see them or not..it beats kidnaping them and jumping off a tall building....or just sitting around in the pub moaning about the fact that life wasn,t fair..good luck to the bloke.

Jeremy Vine is broadcasting on Radio 2 at the moment. Apparently the topic of conversation today is whether or not the police should have shot this guy dressed at batman on sight!!

I understand that the thought is that he may have been a terrorist - but at the end of the day - they would have found controversy with that!!
