Public vs Private Healthcare

Hello there

Just wondering what everyone does when it comes to healtcare. Do you go private or do you trust the Portuguese "NHS"?

And I'd like to take the opportunity to enquire whether anyone knows a good Orthopedist around. I'd be very grateful for name and contact details.

…and yes personally I do trust the NHS here and I am wary of anything but….I’ve heard tales of people getting locked out of the NHS system. ….Go private, pay 50 euros to see a doctor and there’s no turning back…he may refer you to a consultant who may send you to different clinics before suggesting surgery….and before you know it they’re demanding 10-20-30,000 euros for something that would cost 75 cents on the NHS……….they don’t make it easy for you…..lots of queuing and waiting….. ..no way can you book an appointment over the phone….but assuming you have all the time in the world, they’ll look after you…….
