Incessant dog barking all night !
Incessant dog barking all night !
Does anybody else suffer sleepless nights due to incessant dog barking throughout the night? I don't know how the owners tolerate it as it drives me mad & I am across the valley from them.

I found that too on the ADM, not so much at night usually in the evenings a pain in the arse, tourists don't pay for that.alf1956 wrote:Does anybody else suffer sleepless nights due to incessant dog barking throughout the night? Pato, they are at it during the day but its as bad due to the everyday noise etc its a lot worse when it quietens down in the evening. PS.Regarding the half portions my Mrs thought she saw 2 x prices at the side of the meals when we went to La Bella Vita on Sunday night but because I had not mentioned it to her she wasn't looking .

The Portuguese and their attitude to dogs...........or the problem of all the stray dogs that congregate at night on empty land......
We had a problem several years ago with a dog belonging to the Portuguese family whose villa was at the diagonal bottom end of our garden. The husband and wife were out at work all day, the dog was kept in a tiny back courtyard all day, was naturally bored and lonely so it frequently howled when it was quite young. One night the owners had seemingly gone away for the weekend and it howled on and off all night long - not conducive to a relaxing holiday! My husband then bought a dog zapper - a small hand held, battery operated device that emits a high pitched noise that dogs don't like but which humans can't hear. You have to be close to the dog for it to be effective (so no good across the valley!) and it has to be 'Pavlovian' - i.e., only press the button for a short time in response to the dog barking, not just at random or for any prolonged period. It worked a treat and thereafter we only had to resort to using it occasionally to remind the dog if it started barking again.
Earlier this year the family added a young puppy to join the older dog (who hadn't caused any further problem for several years). This puppy was also shut up in the back courtyard all day but we felt was too young to be subjected to the dog zapper treatment or would not understand this, so we didn't use it. One of our dog loving guests later remonstrated with the owners about their treatment of the puppy and I think they did make some adjustments in where the dog was kept for a while. By the time we visited again last month the puppy was no longer causing a noise nuisance so we're keeping our fingers crossed that it stays that way. But at least we do have the dog zapper solution if it doesn't.
Not sure if this would work on a whole group of dogs but maybe a midnight stroll to find out would be worth it?!
