Despite an earlier post stating our visits to CVO were at an end due to Liz retiring on ill health grounds, we might, just might be coming over. Fantastic cheap flights in early January, a great deal on car hire and a very fair price on accommodation means we could just about afford it - it is our Xmas presents to each other. The only thing is we are a way out of town staying at Vale d' Oliveiras. It looks lovely on the internet. Does anyone have any experience or comments regarding Vale d' Oliveiras, I would really appreciate any information. I guess I just need reassuring I am doing the right thing spending the money. Thanks in advance guys x

Never been there, but looked around it, all v nice.....little bit cut off, but fine if you have a car : restaurants in Lagoa probably nearer than CVO ( & ,some, better!).....nice walk to Ferraguedo to work up an appetite.....or to Rosa's in Sesmarias, but expect she will be shut in Jan!.....come on one of my Jan walks?

We have had a good look around VDO & can confirm that it is very pleasant. The restaurant has a good reputation & the staff very polite & helpful.

I have to apologise. In September this year I did post and suggest we had made our last visit to CVO due to Liz's retirement and subsequent drop in funds. I got some extremely nice replies from people. The reason for my apology? We ARE returning!! Due to incredibly cheap flights, a great deal on car hire and a very generous price on accommodation we are staying at Vale D' Oliveiras in early January 2014. This is our Christmas present to each other and represented a price we could just not ignore. So Smudger, see you for a beer.

Excellent news!! You will have a great time at Vale D'Oliveiras and it is not that far out of the way. I go there sometimes to use the indoor pool, jacuzzi and sauna. It is a lovely place in a gorgeous setting. You can walk to Ferragudo in around 25 minutes from there and about 10 minutes to Rosa's in Seamaries. They also hire out bikes if you feel up to it. Maybe we will see you both whilst you are here. Have a great Christmas and all our best wishes for 2014 xxx

I am positive no-one thinks you need to apologise Lamby. All the people who posted on your previous topic really felt for you and Mrs Lamby and hopefully I can speak for all and echo Jan's first comment of excellent news. Have a great time again and hopefully you'll be able to have many more visits.

Hope you have a great time at VdO, you never know who you could bump into!!
Rosa's a haunt of mine and hopefully will be open though when I was over in October they were suppose to be closing for the winter. Is a bit of a hike from VdO to Rosa's as has couple of hills, easier getting back!! A more level 'stroll' from VdO is to the Gramacho Club House which we did when we were over with our 10 month old grand-daughter, pushing a buggy to Rosa's was not an option not just because of hills but no pavement!

Drove past Rosa's yesterday and they were closed. Don't think they will be open now until next year, but I could be wrong!

Sadly, you are not wrong. My other half lives in Sesmarias and Rosa told her that they were closing for 3 months. Cue distraught other half. I'm not happy myself as I'm going to have to use Jophil. Not a bad bar but nowhere near as good as Rosas's.
