TAP strike 21st of March

Post by harrisr9 »

All,

We are due to fly in on the 21st of March with Monarch.

Does anyone know if the TAP strike will impact air traffic control or the airport? Is it the airline only?

Thanks

Rob

Rob,

Best to keep an eye on the various ex-pat news websites as the news changes frequently. If you are travalling to Faro keep an eye on the Algarve Resident as they have already reported about this impending strike. If its going to affect Faro Airport then they certainly will report it.

It a while yet before the 21st of March so hopefully it may be called off. I do hope you can make your journey and enjoy your holiday.

The newsletter "Tomorrow Carvoeiro just posted:-
Passengers travelling with the TAP Portugal airline are being warned of delays, cancellations and travel disruptions due to a strike planned for March 21, 22 and 23.

A statement from TAP Portugal said: "In order to avoid possible problems that may occur during the coming days, TAP suggests that travel changes to bookings already made, be done for the periods outside the strike schedule, by contacting our services or your travel agents."

The statement continued:" These changes, may be done without any additional charges, and likewise, vouchers for the same value of the trip, may be issued and used in future trips with TAP Portugal."

According to reports the strike has already had an adverse effect on tourism in Portugal with up to 10% of reservations for the Easter period being cancelled since the announcement.

Easter is traditionally a popular time of the year for visitors coming to Portugal with regions such as the Algarve depending heavily on the increase in trade to boost revenue after a long winter.

TAP website today says that management have met with the unions and it is expected that the strike will be suspended. I guess we'll know for sure by early next week. Hoping for the best as we are booked to arrive on TAP from LHR on 22nd - fingers crossed!
