Seems to be a lot of people on the site in various different blogs enquiring about New year -
Its a great place to be - even if the fireworks are usually a great big "NO SHOW !" (Any news on this year ?)
Always a great gathering by the beach for dancing in the New Year

How about someone who is lucky enought to be there enjoying the sunshine (I know its a bit rainy at moment - BUT - trust us - its a lot better than over here) doing a bit of heavy research (Drinking involved) for all us "Infrequent Visitors" who are coming over for New Year & getting together a list of who is & is not open for the New Years festivities - so we can book in advance

Main canditates seem to be

Taste - Open - no entertainment planned
Ele & Ella - undecided
A Vela - ?
Maximes - ?
Ma Ja's - ?
? (Anymore)

Seems to be a good booking in it for first place to lay on any decent entertainment (A Vela's was great a couple of years ago)

7 of us coming so thats a start - how many more out there

No completely sure but I don't think Maxime's does do NY eve - I think I asked them about this in the past, via their email rest.maxime@clix.pt - no idea if this email is still current but you can always ring them : 282 357 852. New Year's day is an important holiday for many Portuguese which is maybe why more places don't do anything the night before? Some places have caught a cold in the past when promised bookings have been cancelled at the last minute, making them cautious about accepting bookings without a deposit upfront.

We look at this every year as we've had several great holidays in cvo over New Year - last year the weather could not have been more perfect, not a cloud in the sky for 5 days, which makes us believe it can't be so good this year but we're still going to give it a go!
We usually make our own party from whoever is around but no particular favourite on where to celebrate. As I usually play chauffeur we don't have to limit ourselves to walking distance though ideally we would like to find somewhere in cvo that ticks all the boxes. So far we've tried :

Bon Bon - excellent special NY menu if a bit pricey and there wasn't any 'music or dancing' the time we were there (that may have changed). Small firework display at midnight
Ponte Romano in Silves - cheap and cheerful and great family atmosphere but the line dancing is not really our scene!
Club Nau at Praia Grande - good setting on the beach, food OK, disco after the meal and can see fireworks in distance, but it was cold as it's really just a big gazebo on the beach with just one patio heater for the whole place.
Crissy's in Lagoa - say they are considering doing a NY eve menu and will email interested parties.
O Barradas in Palmeirinha, near Silves - had a great NY eve there a couple of years ago - excellent food and nice atmosphere. Informal dancing/Auld Lang Syne at midnight.

Maybe see you on the beach at midnight!

Hi. This "New Year" subject appears to be gathering momentum. I am also coming to CVO for New Year, this will be our first visit at this time of year. We are regulars in May / June. I know a few people living out there who have their ear to the ground and will be feeding me any information nearer the time. I just want a nice meal in good company and then I am happy to wander around town leading up to midnight, probably ending up on the beach. A little twee, but so long as I am with my beautiful wife to see in the new year I am happy. So far, to meet my needs Ma-Jas looks favourite and I will be in touch with Jan soon to book. Hope to see many of you in and around town over New Years.
