Some Info Please

Hi everyone

Just arrived back in not so sunny Scotland after spending a lovely week in Carvoeiro with my family. A fantastic time was had by all and I'm sure we will return in the near future.

I used Algarve Driver which again was a great service but I'm wondering how long it takes the deposit to show up again in my bank account? The car was handed back with no problems so if anyone can help me with a timescale of how long it takes it would be very much appreciated.

There should be no deposit to refund.
I presume they took an imprint of your credit card, and if there was no damage or problems, then the credit card slip will be torn up and thrown away, and not banked.

Yeah I got the print back but the balance seems to be taken from my available balance and not my balance very confusing

Talk about cutting a topic off, did you pay a deposit, did you pay the insurance excess ?? and why did Algarve driver (YOR) deduct funds
from your credit card. Was it for tolls/fuel ??? My guess is they are checking to see that you have credit to cover the excess.
My question is why do they need this if you pay for the insurance to cover the excess. Fair enough to look for monies to cover
any fuel/tolls not paid for but sometimes the insurance excess can be €1,500.
Always remember when the deduction is made for whatever reason its not easy to get it back, from previous experience not Algarve Driver/YOR.

We have been told that some of the hire companies have been caught by renters leaving card details with liitle or no credit on them resulting in the hire company having to pick up all the costs for damage etc.
Perhaps we could have some sympathy for them if many did not set out to overcharge us at any and every opportunity for " extras , fuel etc etc."

Stick with those you know and can rely on NOT to rip you off by all of the time.

I agree with what you say EMM, the rental companies must protect themselves , but the point I make is
that there is insurance cover in the original cost of the car hire and then you pay for the insurance to cover the excess
and now you need another insurance. Other rental companies like Budget / Auto Jardim/Etc when you take out insurance to cover the excess
only request a deposit to cover fuel, tolls, etc
The question is if the lock is damaged on your rental car what will you be charged ?
Will the full excess value be deducted from your card and its up to you to get a return. This will be zero after you pay the insurance.
Everything is fine until something happens..
