good car hire companies ??
good car hire companies ??
does anybody know of a decent car hire company that does not have the full fuel tank policy?what i mean by the full fuel tank policy is the hire company charges you for a full tank of fuel (at a price consideably more expensive than the pump price) when you hire the car regadless of wether you return the car with 0 fuel in it or f 3/4 full.when i come over for a 4/5 day trip which i do regulary during the out of season months its nearly impossible to use even 1/2 a tank of fuel unless i spent the whole trip driving round as the little economy cars are really good on fuel.i hire a car in december who had a little office in car park 4 & they were very good & you returned the car with the same amount of fuel as when you hired the car & that was fine.

I love easy questions.alf1956 wrote:does anybody know of a decent car hire company that does not have the full fuel tank policy?.
Just look at the top of this page where you can see an ad for AlgarveDriver - support this website.
They have a very sensible policy of "simply bring the car back with the same amount of fuel as when you took it out".
The cars usually come with about 1/4 tank, but sometimes more and sometimes less. It doesn't really matter. Just top up as you go along.
Search AlgarvDriver on this forum and you'll find lots of other people recommending them too.

We have always used Algarvedriver. There may be better deals on paper but their prices are good and Steen will always do a price match, if you email him. My only gripe, why are their male agents so grumpy? A smile costs nothing. A couple of times I have heard people comment on this and it could discourage them from booking again. Steen take note. What we need is a

We always use Algarvedriver when we come over, but I do agree with LB a smile or two would not go a miss.
Re: good car hire companies ??
thanks for your advice on algarve driver but they dont have any cars for the 2nd to 6th april.
Re: good car hire companies ??
Have you tried economycarhire? Just checked their web site and they seem to have cars available between those dates. If you choose Travelrent as the supplier, they do not have a 'fuel policy' which would concern you, just bring the car back with the same amount of fuel.alf1956 wrote:thanks for your advice on algarve driver but they dont have any cars for the 2nd to 6th april.

thanks for your advice adam,i have booked a car with economy hire about 30 mins ago(wish i had looked on here before) after spending hours searching all the companies terms&conditions to find the ones with the same amount of fuel on return policy ,what a job that was!!so does travelrent have the same policy as economy hire ?

I use Economy Car Hire. The further information button on cars you are considering can be used to compare what is offered by supplier. Once you are registered with them you can use the button in quote section to see and choose the supplier. Additionally, you can build up points when using and at 100 points will get 10% discount on what are already good rates.

Following Steens advice, I booked my kids a car with Economy Car Hire. These people seem to be an agency, but we got a good deal, but they didnt specify the hirer.
When my son got the paperwork, it specified the rental company as Travelrent, the company that had quoted me twice as much, before I booked them through Economy.
Interesting????

Have been using them for 5 years. Outstanding service & very competitive pricing !
Re: good car hire companies ??
Bruce, you are correct in saying that Economycarhire is an agency, but they seem to have negotiated much better terms for customers than going directly to the hirer, in both price and conditions of hire. You can find out the hirer before booking if you log in to the economycarhire web site - useful if you have a company you would prefer to use / not use.Bruce Wallis wrote:Following Steens advice, I booked my kids a car with Economy Car Hire. We have used Travelrent either by direct booking or through economycarhire for many years but we are now finding that booking with economycarhire is cheaper than the quotes received direct from Travelrent. We know the owner of Travelrent and he will not budge on price even when you tell him economycarhire is quoting a cheaper price for his company. One example from last year Travelrent direct booking quoted €180 for 10 days Economycarhire quoted £143, both with same coverage, full insurance no excess.Bruce Wallis wrote:Following Steens advice, I booked my kids a car with Economy Car Hire.
