Portuguese Fizz/champagne??

Post by Sandy »

Can anyone recommend a good quaffing fizz? I usually love Seaview and such but would prefer to buy local.

Hi Sandy

Try Filipa Pato 3B Metodo Tradicional for Portuguese Fizz website http://www.filipapato.net/ and notes below from the producer:-

3B Tradicional Method
2009

The 3B (Baga - 70% e Bical - 30%, from an Atlantic region beginning by B…) was born the desire to create an aromatic Tradicional Method, refreshing, honest and elegant based on indigenous grapes from vineyards that respect the region tradition of cultivating.
Because i do not agree with the description sparkling, next year I will designate it by the Traditional Method. Waiting that the country decide for a specific name such as Spain with Cava and Italy with Franciacorta, etc ...
Grapes: Baga and Bical.
Soil: Clay-limestone and Sandy
Age of vineyards: 30 years average
Weather: Atlantic
Winemaking: The grapes are harvested by hand after they are pressed gently in vacuum frame. After decanting the wine ferments with indigenous yeasts in cask of 650 liters and stainless steel vats at temperatures below 16 º C.
Service: Should be served at 8-10 degrees in elegant cups tulip-shaped.
Harmonization:
It makes a great companion to chat with friends even outside of the meal.
It works very well with natural cooking seafood, poultry and salads hard cheeses.
Note: The Filipa Pato's 3B sparkling was elected by 4 of the 6 brazilian specialists for the new year's eve celebrations, in the Revista Veja São Paulo.

So Pickwick what would you recommend to me on the celebration front? I have tried the fizz with Macassa, but would like something to compare with so we can celebrate new year. Looking on the link, but guess what its in some foreign language.  Have bought lots of vintage cava here, so how does it rate with that? Your mad mate - LICY

I'm with Macasasa on this one...Pingo Doce own label Bruto Bairrada....made the classical way...only 2.69€ when we were there in September....needs to be well chilled and eat some nibbles with it. French Champagne is ruinously expensive in Portugal!
