Buying Euros in Carvoeiro

Post by sfuller »

Hi
Does anyone know where I could get a good exchange rate for Sterling to Euros in Carvoeiro please? Current best rate I can get on line in the UK is 1.13 £ to € and I wondered if was better off waiting until I arrive in 2 weeks please?
Cheers

Anything could happen in two weeks. However, unless you are thinking of spending several thousand pounds, it's not really going to make that much difference! So probably not worth worrying about too much - of more importance is the commission you would have to pay which can be high depending on where you are getting the money from.

thats a very good rate...who is it with? do they charge anything for the conversion...the best I can see this morning is 1.265 with no charges and put into my cvo bank account. Whatever you do try and avoid using UK cash point cards maximum is 200 Euros and they cahrge each time as much as 5 Euros a go

Also avoid the on street FX outlets, some where offering 2 cents less than the UK tourist rate last week.

We have found that you get the best rate by buying from Travelex in the UK, on line. Otherwise if you have a bank account sometimes (depending on the days rate) paying UK pounds into your account give a good rate.

Premier FX rate today is 1.14 with no commission charge, but you must have a euro bank account (not necessarily in Portugal).

Phone (UK) 0845 021 2370 or Algarve 289 358 511 - ask for Peter stating it is on my recommendation.

What's the minimum you can buy for this rate Roy?

According to their literature there is no minimum amount - in practice though I would guess this means around £ 250.

You can haggle with some exchanges, but so what! it's usually only a couple of euros either way, not worth bothering about.

As previous reply, Post Office and a good buy-back, no fee.

Why bother taking Euros - there are cash macines everywhere and you get a much better rate using them. On arrival I use the one in the arport baggage hall to get €150 (that's the max) and then use one of the numerous mutibanco's around the place as I need it. Why pay the exchange rate commissions and carry wads of cash around with you??
