Wheelchairs in lagoa

Post by Guest »

How many disabled people do you see???

Well not a lot...having had the problem once to have to push a wheelchair invalid in Lagoa, let me assure you that it is well nigh impossible...broken -narrow - uneven calcada pavements, kerbstones almost mount everest in height...cars parked across pavements...in fact the only thing to do in the end was to become a "road vehicle" and travel up the main roads in Lagoa on the tarmac with 20 cars following behind.

With such conditions it is very clear that if you become wheelchair bound in Portugal your life is finished and all you can for the most time is to stay at home.

Of course we have the pretense of wheelchair access - as per the example in Portimao post office which comes complete with an entrance lift....problem is getting to the lift is an expedition in itself.

if anyone ever considers bringing a disabled relative here...think long and hard before you do. :(

You are right guest, the Algarve is not wheelchair friendly on the whole. Have you heard of David Players initiative called "Wheeling around the Algarve"?

Algarve holidays aimed at the less abled. Not sure what the website is but you should find it ok on Google I reckon.
