Scuba Diving

Post by HampshireRich »

A couple of years ago the question was asked on the forum about where to dive, but got little response, so I'll try again.

When we come back to CVO next year one of our party is a keen diver - has anyone used the dive school at QDP? - or the hotel just outside CVO?

Has anyone any experience of diving outside CVO - Portimao, Vilamoura etc?

There's nothing in FAQ so anyone who has experience and is willing to share would be most welcome.

Thanks

HR

Thanks guys (couldn't remember how to spell the hotel name either).

The lady who dives is quite experienced if, dare I say it, getting on a bit so a more gentle style of diving than deep sea would suit.

Gary - I wil let you know when I'm out again - more than delighted to buy you a beer - would hate to think you'd go your whole holiday without a drink!!!

Stevie-C - if you're about I'll buy you a beer too - but bring a load of dosh with you - Gary can get expensive!!

HR glad to be of service the Hotel has an approved PADI school so your friend should find like minded people to dive with. Looking forward to the beer :D :D :D

Now as an old well travelled chappie do you have any tips for Malta it was over 30 years since I last went there. Stayed near St Georges bay but do remember drinking Cisk beer and I think another one called Blue label 8) 8)

Just celebrating our 7th wedding annivesery (for the life of me I cant spell it :!: :!: ) today so might give the other half a day out

Might go to Leiden which is a pretty town with canals etc and then tonight will allow Gaynor to treat me to some Spare ribs at our local.

Oh happy days :D :D I wish you all a nice weekend :D :D

Only 7 more days to go before I have a well earned break :!: :!:

The local PADI diving schools are very rip off merchants - a charge for filling a Nitrox tank is 2x that of the uk and for normal comp air s 1.5 X. My builder is a diver so I am fortunate enough to be able to go with him and use his local dive shops for refills etc.

Hello everyone,

Our dive centre is located at the Tivoli Carvoeiro Hotel in Carvoeiro. You can find us by going up Rua do Farol (restaurant hill) and then continuing for another 250m. You will find the hotel on the right side. When you arrive at the hotel follow the car park all the way to the left and slightly down hill. In the far left corner there is a track leading to the ocean, you will be able to see our dive centre from there (its underneath the hotels swimming pool).

For everyones information we dive everyday all year round from the shore (usually at 09:30 and at 13:30). We also have boat dives that run most days.

We offer guided dives, all PADI courses, Discover Scuba Dives (try-dives) and snorkelling tours.

If you would like any other information, please message me and I will be happy to answer.

Kind regards,

Billy Edgley

Hello maccasa,

I am not sure of which dive centres you are referring to, but we do not overcharge for tank filling (50c a litre) and up to today we charge the same for nitrox.

We haven't done any scuba diving ourselves but several guests staying in our villa on QdP have used the QdP dive centre and spoken highly of their experiences there and you quite often see people having 'taster' sessions in the main pool on the complex. So yes, the QdP place is another option.
Back to digusting weather here, only 3 more weeks to go before our next cvo trip.

Just checked with my buddy in Albuferia - we get our twin 15l tanks filled to 245 bar for €5 - maybe its because we are regulars?

I know the Dive centre at the Tivoli Hotel in carvoeiro fill tanks free of charge (although donations are welcome). Also, they have a promotion on at the moment - 20% off all courses until the end of the year.

Their email address is info@tivoli-diving.com if you want to get in touch.
