Stayed @ Solferias a few years ago and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Have a look at Trip advisor for some reviews.
They keep promising to do a complete refurb, but we passed there in July and little appears to have changed!
Long trek up 'Cardiac Hill' from the centre of CVO - not recommended after a few glasses of Sagres!
Nadolig Llawen a Blwyddyn Newydd Dda.

A couple of years ago we were in a similar situation but at the end of the holiday. We ended up having one night at the motel on the N125 just outside of Lagoa toward Albufeira - same side as the Fire Station. I won't pretend it would give the Ritz too much of a run for it's money but it was clean and inexpensive, and had great gardens and a nice pool. It was in fact a last resort for us as none of the hotels in the town were willing to do just one night in high season (which is fair enough).
I'm sorry to say I can't remember the name of the place but I think it was something like Parque Internationale. Anyway, it was run by a French chap. I remember asking him to have a drink on me when I bought a round at the little bar there - he thanked me and said his wife would have one as well! That'll teach me.

Easy peasy this one, surprised no one has mentioned it before but there are some very nice guest houses in the area and this one I can personally recommend as it's down the road to our place and a good friend of mine stayed there earlier this year and is itching to go back. Casa Mariposa it's only 3 mins from the top of restaurant hill and has tennis courts and a large pool.

Ah! Sorry Mat Mat. I bumped this topic because I thought it might assist in the query you just posted. Then I noticed you started this topic anyway! Middle age and the shedding of brain cells are a terrible thing
