we are considering adding an extension to our house in Carvoeiro or maybe building another small property on our land. Do the council allow additional buildings on existing plots? Failing that who do write or visit to submit plans and how long does it take to have them passed.

I found a similar subject on the Ex Pats forum and it seems that we cannot build additional living accomodation withoutfirst splitting or subdividing the plot. Has anyone on here gone through this process? We would appreciate any information. I am thinking the worst and like so many things in Portugal this will take time and we will have to revert to plan b that is extend which may end up taking nearly as much time
