Probably won't be quite as pleasant, strolling along the back roads of Carvoeiro as it would be on the pretty lanes and back roads of Sark !!

This may be true but as they say a change is as good as a rest, and a stroll is always worth if there,s food and drink at the end of it , and a taxi to get back.

Ciderman, walking was always my favourite exercise..and I would have country walks every day here in the Wolds, until I got this arthritic problem with my hip. Now I can only manage about 30 yards/metres all told and thats with a walking stick.

When we lived in Lagoa I would walk to Carvoeiro and back again and did loadsa walking in the countryside around Lagoa...I even walked to my garden job near Porches, using the back roads.
I miss it so much. But once I get my hip sorted I aim to get back to it again

Walking is a great way to meet folk too and Ive met so many that way, both here and in Algarve. We spend a lot of our time in 'boxes' (home & car) that its wonderful to get out and about in the fresh air.

Don't forget to have a stroll along the clifftops too Ciderman,

many thanks for that hope your soon back walking , have been planning some routes to cvo and ferragudo along cliffs or further afield once get my bearings , Sark is very good for walking as we are a plateau 350ft up so the views are spectacular , guernsey , herm, alderney jersey and france are all visible on a clear day like today , there's no trmac roads either , just stone / gravel tracks.

Ellie, how long would you say it takes from Carvoeiro to Lagoa walking?
I plan to do this next week, my eldest son laughed at this and said I wouldnt make it.

Hi Ciderman

We live in Sesmarias and in a small group all together, you have an Alisuper (they close at 1pm for a couple of hours and close around 7/8pm at night, Sunday, I think they only open in Morning), a newsagent/coffeeshop/pizza place (also do good Full English brekkie), then you have Jophil bar and restaurant and a DIY / everything shop, just a bit further, Cafe Sesmarias commonly or famously known as Rosas, where you can drink from early morning to early morning, the Joaos on the corner, Italian & live music, very close to Gramacho Golf course, very nice restaurant called Bon Bon. My hubby walks along the cliffs to Carvoeiro often, and the walk to Ferragudo is good too. I usually go and pick him up in Carvoeiro and have a beer at Smilers with him - theres a taxi rank right by there too. We love Alderney by the way, Hubby took me there for a surprise long weekend quite a few years ago and I absolutely loved it, the best part was sharing the tiny aeroplane with the daily delivery of veg for the island. Hi Jackie

Im trying to think back, to when we did it (my son would walk with me, & I was younger,fitter then

)..
I believe the distance from Lagoa to Carvoeiro is 5 kilometres? about 2 and half miles? I suppose when we did it then, would take about half hour / 40 mins?
I recall one time we walked it at night ( I wouldn't recommend that!)...very dodgy/dangerous.
I would love to try it again once I get myself sorted out physically

I would imagine its lovely walking on Sark, with no traffic to worry about?

I can also recall walking from Carvoeiro to Rocha Brava and back many times in the past.
When we lived out there, I met an elderly lady who lived in retirement at Roch Brava(we did some work up there).....she put me to shame, as she used to walk to Portimao!

I don't participate in sports much (though I do like Badminton) but Ive read that walking is so good for you. Wherever I've lived Ive always done this. Used to walk in the Lakes when we lived there.
