Whats the up to date situation on smoking. When I left on 29th December the village was bracing itself for the introduction of the ban but it was a little unclear as to how it would work. Are most of the pubs and eating houses still viewed through a haze or have they followed the irish lead which has been adopted around most of Europe at this stage ?? I myself don't have an issue with smoking (in fact I like the feel of a dimly lit bar with good music and a band singing "through the haze") but my wife detests it and sometimes goes overboard in showing her annoyance by waving a beer mat in the direction of the culprit

Care to PM me with a list of them - smoking and non-smoking?dennisg wrote:Have just come back from 14 days in CVO eating out every night.
Lovely smoke free restaurants - yippee! What a treat. Even previously smoky dens like Gales are now smoke free and you can enjoy your food without smoke drifting across you. And we did enjoy.

When we were out on the 2nd January the Chinese restaurant at the bottom of restaurant hill on the right hand side (if you're coming up from the square) allowed a large table of diners to smoke. I queried the waiter about the new law but he didn't make sense in his reply. The diners in Villa Medici all had to smoke outside. Also no smoking allowed in the Almansor and the Cristal Hotel but I think all hotels have to abide by the rule.

Michael,
Frow what the posts are saying you might only need to list the "smoking" rather than the non smoking bars before long
Is the smoking ban implemented across all of the med at this stage or is the village likely to lose custom to places like the dreaded Canaries. I don't smoke but if I did it would be a big factor in my destination choice.

I Know the smoking ban wouldn't put me off visiting CVO as, let's be honest her, it's no hardship sitting outside while on holiday. We even sat outside during the cooler winter months so that my OH could have a smoke. It's always much nicer being outside in CVO than back home in UK. AND I certainly wouldn't opt to go anywherelse because of it, but, if others would like to do that, it's entirely up to them.

We ate in California, Casa do Bife, Happys, A Gale, Casa Algarvia, Jota Lita - all non smoking, Casa Algarvia has a covered, sheltered area for smokers outside which was empty on the 3 occasions we ate there, some others have tables outside but understandably in January they were empty. I don't know of any which permit smoking inside. We had a few lunches at various places outside on balconies where there was some smoking but this didn't affect us.Michael Crane wrote: Care to PM me with a list of them - smoking and non-smoking?
mods; would not it be better to combine this topic with the other one about the same subject?
