King of Fabrics

Post by Gary/Gaynor »

Anyone know if Dean is still around at King of Fabrics the telephone number I have tried is now out of use. Gary and I saw him when we were last out 1st week December and he was talking about moving over to kenya? One of his close friends was due to take up and run business for him. Any info please let me know, I have also email him so see if he answers.
thanks

I'm not in Carvoeiro right now, but the last I heard from friends there, was that Mary from Scotland will be taking over the shop, and that Dean was moving permanently to Kenya. I think they mentioned that she would be there by the end of January. The pub next door to the shop always knows what is going on. I'll be in Carvoeiro next week so I'll go in and ask and post another reply.

When we were there between Christmas and New Year we saw adverts for them in the newspaper with their opening times which I think were Monday to Friday 9 to 1

Just to let you know the material shop is open and is not being run by Mary but by a lady called Jan. She says she is open five days a week (Mon to Friday) at present from 10 to 1 pm.

It is in the small "underground" shopping area, on the right hand side as you go up Rua do Farol. The Chinese restaurant is pretty well over the top of it.
Not sure why Dean decided on Kenya, particularly at this time of unrest.

Thanks all, heard from Dean this monring, he is now out in Kenya according to him civil unrest is not affecting him or his new venture (a bar I think) He still has a hand in running King of Fabrics and can be contacted by an email: kingoffabrics@yahoo.co.uk, with Jan inplace to run the shop side of things and Mary back in Scotland running up curtains for him. We are ordering over the email like we have done before. We picked out the fabric we wanted for curtains for our house in Holland on our lst visit last December. He has successfully shipped to us before with no problem.
Will pop in to see Jan when we are out in March.

Gaynor, pleased that Dean is OK. I guess anyone that will get on his bike and cycle from Carvoiero to Aye in Scotland has the right mental attitude to cope with Kenya. Wish him well.
