Moving soon to Carvoeiro

Post by westygolfpro »

Hi There, Me and my family will, when we have sold our house in the UK, be moving to the Carvoeiro to live and work. I first visited the area in the early 90's to play golf at Pinta in a Pro-Am and I loved it and now having the opportunity to live there has got us all excited. Any advice or comments from anyone reading this would be extremely helpful for us before we move. Our daughter Hollie will be going to the International School, Porches (she is 7 in April) and I will be working as a golf pro locally. I look forward to your replies. Keep Smiling, Tony Westwood. :D

Hiya and welcome, hope the move goes well, you are lucky in that you have a job already lined up, many who go do not and get stuck when they then try to find work. The International school is reputed to be very good altho' I don't know from experience, I have friends who's children have been going there for some years now.

Hope it is everything you hoped for, and good luck again.

Welcome. Although I am not too familiar with Carvoeiro only having been there once it is a great place and I will be visiting again in July/August. There are many people on this Forum with the experience to help you so stick around and ask loads of questions and I am sure you will receive some useful information and help. Good luck for the future.

Any relation to Lee? My granddaughter goes to the International School and she loves it. She is 7 in November.

Hi All, Thanks for your kind words and support. I no relation to Lee, I am the good looking one (you'll have to take my word for that). Our daughter Hollie is really looking forward to the school, we have met the Head, Mr. Butterworth and we were very impressed. Over the next few weeks I will keep you all posted on how things develop and where we will be based too and I will use the forum for any questions we have as our move comes closer. Till then. Keep Smiling, Tony.

Good luck. Most of us can only dream about working in Portugal. Are you going to be working at one of the local courses?

Good luck, Westy, I'm sure you'll have a great time. If you need advice, could I recommend a book, "Buying Property in Portugal" by Gabrielle Collison. Gabby used to post on this forum as Bruxinha. (I'm not on commission) :)

moving to carvoeiro

Hi! Welcome! We're also moving to Carvoeiro in July (once the school year has finished here) and our daughter, although older at 14) is going to the International School also! She is looking forward to going from a year group of 280 to 19 - bit of a difference! We have had a house not far from Gramacho (sesmarias) for almost 20 years and decided last October that enough is enough in the licensed trade and move over asap. At the moment, I am having a break from packing as we are shipping stuff out this week (including my hubbys new set of golf clubs as he's hoping to actually play some golf now that we are leaving the mad world of licensees - the last time he played was last October when we were out there, at Parque de Floresta as my son in law conveniently works there)Ideally, it should all arrive next week when we are there for 11 days -cant wait!! :D

When you say working as a gold pro do you mean teaching? Been meaning to take up Golf so I can knock a few balls round with my husband. We bought property in CVO a few years back and visit 4 to 5 times a year so wouldn't mind having a few lessons. Unfortunately have a few more years yet till we get to move out permanently.
Good luck

Moving to Carvoeiro

Post by westygolfpro »

Hi All, Thanks for the support and kind notices. I am going to be based at the new Boa Nova complex just outside Sesmarias on the road to Ferragudo. We are still waiting to sell our house and things are beginning to look up at the moment. I will be coaching and playing as the complex is to have a brand new state of the art golf range and short game area as well as other leisure facilities. I do have a fourteen year old step-daughter and she is not sure whether she is going to move over to Portugal with us or stay in the UK and live with her Dad. We want her to move with us obviously, and as yet she is not convinced. I will keep you all posted as things develop and once again THANKS.

Hi Tony,

I sincerely hope that your stepdaughter moves out with you, from a selfish point of view as my daughter is 14 and is not that keen at the moment Ha! leaving friends, school etc - but one of her older sisters already lives there, so thats a bit of a bonus for her. Ive just read your last message to my-golf-obsessed-but-never-has-time hubby and he is over the moon about the thought of a new complex near to us - but what about us golf widows -will there be something there for us to do, Parque de Floresta is a bit of a long drive for a pamper!!
