Fishing Permits

Post by Janey »

We have been told that you must have a fishing permit now to fish off the beach or rocks or from a boat. Does anyone have any information as to the cost of these or where you can purchase one from? Many thanks! :?:

To sea fish , you need a licence ( not children they fish for free ) , these are available by multi banco ask your local bank staff to show you how. For inland and lake fishing you have to go to the fishing and agriculture office in Portimao.
My child bought me a fishing rod for mothers day !!!!! and then was slightly put out when I caught 2 fish !!!!!!!

EMM - I have fished many times near the Silves / Messines Amarosa area, there are many Baragems (reservoirs) worth a try. We usually spin with a couple of rods and ledger with a couple too, sweetcorn is good with carp ground bait in feeders. Dog biscuits have worked well sometimes too, you will find mainly carp and Ashegur (not sure how you spell this one) - good luck

Have you tried fly fishing for the achigas ( black bass ). How easy is it to access the lakes ?

Yes fly fished too but i haven't been as successful as when spinning for the black bass and ledgering for the carp though, but still worth a shot. The lakes are easily accessible, it's worth trying all the little tracks around the baragems as you can reach some stunning locations with perfect fishing conditions.
