Horse Riding

Sometime in the next 2 weeks I promised my daughter we will go horse riding - she's really good,

, I haven't ridden for nearly 30 years

, my wife has never ridden (at least a horse!)

and my daughter's boyfriend has done it once (... again, a horse!)

. So, can anyone of you kind folks tell me where is the best place to go?

Friends rode at Vale de Para ( Quinta da Saudade, )they rode through the sand dunes and along the beach at Salgados.

hah! I hope that horse riding in the Algave is better tha in the UK. We took 10 of our horses to the Royal Show this week and the whole thing was a mudbath.

In fact, Horse and Hound magazine liked the pic so much they are using it in their next issue!

i have been tempted to wander down to the place near the International School - is it any good?

fmm, that looks horrible, what were you doing? showing or jumping? with 10 horses... wow glutton for punishment.

The place on the N125 Quinta da Gill is very nice, she has some nice ponies and horses but personally they were a little to 'riding school for me' But don't be put off by that I tend to like riding mad horses that no one else will go near so not a good comment really.

There is also a stables just outside of Silves on the Messines road which has some good horses and a nice area to ride too.

When is it ever going to stop raining! my field is just mud.... what on earth is it going to be like by the time winter comes I dread to think.

Trust me, it WAS awful. but we were at Hickstead the day before and that was even worse!

We do showing. Didn't do too badly with a win and reserve in the small riding horses and a second in the large riding horses. So almost worth going! Cobs were placed in the top 5, but the heavyweight should have won - we were robbed!!

They have cancelled so many shows - now there is talk of the Great Yorkshire being cancelled

Do you have yours at home?

If you fancy riding any time I am out in Cvo, would love to join you!

fmm, that would be great to have someone to ride out with, do you get out to cvo often? let me know when you are out next and we will organise something.

I only have my retired ex racehorse at home now, very large pet in a field! He has arthritis in his hocks and hips which has now got so bad he can't take any weight on his back.

My Eventer (ridden by a friend who has him at her yard) is doing very well this season we have had quite a lot of 1st, 2nd and 3rds this season including a couple of qualifiers for the Regional finals.

My pony is out on loan to a family near to here so I keep an eye on him, they love him to bits and the two girls who ride him have now started taking him to shows locally.

My plan, once we are living in Portugal is to get a horse as the land we have would easily accommodate a stable and paddock.

Well done on the results for your guys, you must have a big yard to keep that lot!

I would love to ride out - I am in Cvo from 3rd-19th August - so if you are around please let me know. I don't take my riding hat (although will make sure I have some decent shoes to wear) - can we hire hats?

Hi, all,

Quinta da Gill, between Carvoeiro and Val de Rei, is the place to go.
My hubby, who has been known to ride horses of different calibre was more than happy with his horse and enjoyed his ride immensley.
My daughter aged 5 at the time, also liked hers.
The tendency was to match horse to rider, much the same as any stables would endeavour to do.
And she is English! no language barrier involved.
We stopped off one day, booked in .
Daughter, different time to hubby, went first, he went later on ( as an experienced rider!!!)
Made him big-headed, but I coped!!!!! (just about)

Utah the place to go.................for horseriding, that is!!!

But that's another story................
