The Silent Majority?

Post by widge »

Is it a statistical error or something to do with the system that so many members are silent? Reviewing the membership list 15 pages (750 members) have never posted an entry! 1000 members have only ever posted one and yet the top ten contributors have posted tens of thousands. Is this "pareto law", 20% of members contribute 80% of messages or is it even more extreme? Is this representative?

Not wanting to go any further but could the lack of activity have anything to do with the absence of a few " notorious " past and present members.

Like all forums that require a registration, a lot of 'members' sign up, take a look and never return. I am a 'member' of countless forums and (you'll find this hard to believe) . . . . I have only posted on three or four of them!

Silent majority

Post by Robbie »

I agree totally in that humans are nosey by nature and a lot of people register with a view to taking it further but never actually do. I don't post very often but find the wedsite absolutely fantastic. A tonic every day at break time and given the frequency of my visits to the village I use it as a means of building myself up for my next visit (two weeks time !!) It is nice to register credit when it is due, so can I take the opportunity to thank everyone involved in the maintenance of the site and to all "keep up the excellent work"

a tonic

Post by SJ & RE »

Yep, totally agree, the 'pick me up tonic' works wonders mainly but does occassionally make me feel 'I wish I was right there now'.
All the info one receives makes one feel as though one is a real part of it all.
Please everyone keep it coming in.
Cannot wait 2 get back to CVO, only 1 month 2 go.
Hope lots around 4 a meetup!!!!!!!

A Silent One

Thought i'd do a quick post as I'm one of the silent majority!

Although I do not post I do browse through very regularly and always look throught the site and see what you all have to say!

I've been to CVO twice and loved it so much, I just like to look around the site and see what's going on! Hope to return soon, if money will allow!

Can I second that please? I absolutely love this site - don't post often, as i don't feel I have much to contribute but I read with great interest and enjoyment and join in with the chat as and when. A big thank you to all involved in running this - long may it continue and only 2 weeks till I'm back in C myself...WOOOO HOOOO!!

It's good to see some of the silent majority making some noise on the web site. I am sure that the more people contribute the better the Carvoeiro .com site will become making it an even livelier site to visit!

Hello everyone

This is my first post here. I’ve been coming here regularly for about 3 months.
Your postings and your site has made me want to visit Carvoeiro at the first opportunity!

You also offer great advice and ‘know-how’ on other parts of the Algarve which is great! You are a great asset to the Algarve!

Sincerely: Thank you

may have 'sent' this before completing.

Only registered today by we've been looking at the site for months as we've visited the area frequently. We like the web-cam, especially when it's hot and we're at home shivering.
We were a bit worried when it disappeared just before our last visit in May as the weather had been awful in CVO but we had a spectacular week.

CVO reminds us of Abersoch on Lleyn peninsula in North Wales. They also have a webcam and good local website though not as extensive as CVO.

Thanks to all those who do post regularly, it gives the rest of us chance to learn more about an area we visit. We are lucky to have found it and those who live there are even luckier.

Sorry, I visit the forum everyday and also look at the webcam as it reminds me how lovely Carvoeiro is, and can't wait for our next visit in August. Will try and be a little more proactive from now on

Although the post count says I have just made my 1st post, I have posted before but must have used a different username or password.
Sorry, I use a few forums and sometimes my usernames are not accepted, so I can't remember which ones to use!
