Earthquake?

Post by Rob F »

Just felt what was in my opinion a rather serious earthquake... Anyone else has the same experience?

Earthquake

Yes, we too felt it at Quinta do Paraiso. Bit of a shock to the system. Knew right away what it was tho!! Heart jumped to mouth. No evidence of it tho, structurally, as far as I can see.

6.0 on the Richter scale according to PT radio.

Still waiting for the USGS data to be updated.

Yup, that is the classification the USGS gives it.

The experience was a bit surreal down in my office, as a large truck passed by when it started and it seemed like it was the truck that made the building shake. It was only when the rumble continued after the truck passed that we realized what was going on.

I thought it was a truck at first too, but then realized it was someting of a different kind. Was surprised by the rumble that went along, sounded like far away thunder.

I suppose there was no real harm done anywhere in Portugal?

According to the USGS, the rumble you hear is not that made by the actual quake, but rather the sound of the earth, the buildings and their content moving.
