Done a bit of research on this and have policeman (portuguese) mate. He's in a situation where he rents out a room to a local who's resident in Pt, a national. She's been in his house for over 6 months and he can't legaly remove her even if she went away on hols for 6 months!!!

OK Guest. Then what have 'Thrill Seekers' and 'Loop the Loopers' got to do with my house on the hill?
The Portuguese policeman is not in the position I'm thinking of. I'll spell it out. If I come over to CVO and take up squatting in what appears to be an abandoned house, what can the law do? Do I get evicted by the local police? Do the owners have to get a court order to get me out? How long can I stay before I can register it as mine?
Have I opened a whole can of worms here?

Me reporting from cvo...lovely sunny day and warm..been on beach for couple hours!
Took about 8 photos of house on hill ..mostly interior..

Oohh! Wouldn't I just love to spend a couple of hours on CVO beach. I'm mad jealous!

Raining here in Ireland and temp is 46 fh. Don't think we will be making it out just yet. We are still getting over the financial shock of the trip to the USA and Christmas.

Glad to see you are enjoying it anyway. Thanks for taking the photos. I am looking forward to seeing them.

Any thoughts on 'squatting' in the house?
I can't raise Homme Poco into having a look at it. Not yet anyway.
There's always hope.

Now back in cold but quite sunny Lincs Joe !
But as well as a suntan..I also brought back a heavy cold! So soon as I feel bit better Ill get photos developed(fingers crossed theyve come out ok)..and get some off to you!

Think I took about 10 photos altogether..mostly inside..but I was taking one outside.on the cliff path below it..and a lady came up to me..
and in American accent said,
"Isnt this just beautiful? Such a stunning view! I would just love to live here!"
We got talking...I told her about your dream and she fully understood your feelings..
It was her first visit to Algarve and she'd fallen in love with it..had been sitting on the clifftops and told me how 'at peace' she had felt..
I think we spoke for about half an hour..and of course I told her of Carvoeiro.com.....what a great site it was...
She was leaving the next day but said she would love to return.. and she would be looking in on here...
so 'Terese'...hope you get the chance soon to do so..

hello this is Biffa's 2nd darling but I can't remember how to log in - its been so long.

Maybe I missed a post (7 pages to trawl through!!) but no one has mentioned that Sopa used to live in the house on the hill. Do you remember him? I was one of those awful children that used to shout 'O! Sopa' at him when he walked past.
My daddy Biffa also used to call him Dusty Bin and said it was him who came in in the night and made your hair all messed up while you were asleep.

Didn't he fall off the cliff and was found drowned in the sea?

boring but maybe interesting... not actually boring SORRY!!

No,Biffas 2nd darling....don't think this guy Sopas been mentioned as a former 'resident' of house on hill...
was he a 'squatter' or tramp..down and out? a local 'eccentric?
When I was up there taking the photos inside..it looked like people had been camping out there..lots of bags&tins etc!!
sorry to hear he ended in a watery grave tho!

Ask your dad for more information about the old man who went down to the sea. As the house was abandoned way back on the 1930s or '40s. I doubt that he owned it.

Ellie,
You previously mentioned a rather old woman in CVO who may know something about the house. Did you get a chance to talk to her? (When you weren't sunning yourself on the beach!. "You beachbunny you").

Yes..the older lady is Mum of my Portuguese friend in CVO...she is going to ask her mother about the house..I will give her a call soon to see if shes found out anything at all...
am taking pics in to be developed tomorrow(have had grotty cold since I got back so haven't been out)...so hope to get some off to you next week..
I think Biffas 1st Darls tale of Sopa is interesting dont you? Sounds like a 'man of the road' an old eccentric I would think..living rough..
I love hearing about these local 'characters..to me theyre what make the place so interesting.....
like to have met him..........'

This is only obliquely to do with the 'house'.
I have looked at my Portuguese translator and fine "Sopa" means 'Bouillon, Pottage, Sirret or Soup. Why would you shout "O! Soup." at someone? What does it mean? (Apart from being mean!)

Hello B2D here again - still not able to remember signing procedure. But I like to be a guest at your table(s)

anyway ellie you wouldn't have liked to meet Sopa. He was really rather smelly. I remember once seeing him actually climb right out of a bin - you know the big communal ones. You'd often see his little legs sticking out of the top of one too... I think they were his restaurant of choice. Perhaps he would write a good newsletter like my daddy does. 'today I dined in style from the lixo outside maria Teresa's - always a fine selection of mouldy vegetables and half chewed chicken legs. As usual the service was slightly slow but good value for money...'

Dalmatian (is that his name - sorry I can't be arsed to go back and see how to spell it) is right sopa is soup. I think it was becasue he always had a rather distressing stain down the front of his trousers - obviously from spilling his soup?!.

I'm sure he didn't own the house but we always called it Sopa's house because he lived there.

i was just looking at dalcassians photos in the gallery (quiet day at work!) and see he was in cvo in 1980. we moved out there in 82 I think and sopa was well ensconced in his dream house by then I'm sure.
Maybe you saw him and didn't realise he was the current tenent...
perhaps it was him cooking the sardines at O barco...!!
