ELECTRICAL GOODS

I would like to know the brand name of Summer's vacuum cleaner as she seems to recommend it highly and I have been looking around for a new one.
As to which brand we buy...it is luck of the draw though most things are made only to last a short time now as the manufacturers don't want to make long lasting reliable goods..........they want the money.

Suckered by the advertising and initial 'revolutionary concept' in bagless vacuuming I bought the first Dyson - the much missed DC01 - this vacuum was a dream, worked perfectly for years, one bit of plastic broke but we could live without that and I loved that vaccum - it was unfortunately murdered by one of us trying to hoover up way too much plaster following some building work.
So off I went to buy what was then the latest model - absolutely poo, lots and lots of the plastic bits broke off, the additional motorised head for pet hairs didn't work. I assumed I had bought a 'friday' unit. And replaced it with the latest Animal - also crap - same problems.
Now have Electrolux which has been great.
However I am trying to get pet hairs off carpets not simply lift them off tiles or marble and I have a houseful of teenagers which previously also housed a man who was so heavy handed he could open a cupboard door and pull it off its hinges. So perhaps thats why the newer Dysons seemed so fragile although as with all good things - maybe there has been some resting on laurels at Dyson as far as build quality is concerned. . . .

Living in very rural area, we do a lot of online shopping. The end of February we bought a new petrol mower (power devil). Got the thing out about 2 weeks or so ago, for first cut...went for a little while, then spluttered and conked out!
H did everything to get it going..but nothing. Phoned catalogue company..oh thats alright sir we'll replace it. Next day a phone call to say they couldn't as we'd had it over 14 days and we had to get in touch with manufacturers...
to cut a long story short, phone calls back & forth and they're still wrangling..been over 2 weeks now!
meanwhile lawn remained uncut.
This tuesday,H ordered a cheap little electric mower. it was delivered thursday.....lawns now cut!
But as you say, its same for most things now....shoddy goods not mean't to last! Yet ever increasing prices.

Please don't let their smiley faces fool you, they aren't gimmicks they are heavy duty machines. You'll probably find the cleaners in the local hospitals/offices etc. using them. I have never heard 1 bad word said against them and I do know many many people who have 1. Oh and I think you can use them bagless if you really want to.
I await your comments/insults whatever

There NO DYSON volume manufacturing anymore at Malmesbury over 1000 people lost their jobs, he does retain a research centre there.
Volume production takes place in the industrial area outside of kL malaysia.
Fullcredit to Dyson for his determination but please don,t think him any different to any hard headed busines man wanting to make a profit.

In my above post, I spoke of the problems we've had with our new petrol mower..
Well after reading an article on todays paper, I think we will discarding it in favour of the cheap electric one!
From the article:
As well as gardeners being hit by a hosepipe ban, we are now told that using a petrol mower is a 100 times worse for pollution, than that given off by a car!
I was very surprised by this..the electric mower it shall be
