one can do their market research….. try to find what’s the best way to make a living in Algarve…but if you have a sound sensible business plan…and something you really believe in, you can do it against the odds…(OK it helps if you have some cash to gamble)

Right…..Sandwich Bar

location, location, location: somewhere that every tourist finds themselves standing outside….giant blackboard on pavement listing must-have ingredients
seating: stools and standing at high tables (don’t want them getting too comfortable)
all sandwiches sold wrapped in paper…juices in throwaway cups
toilets: none
no smoking
er....................

I know the boavista bar. I used to go there when it was open!

not sure about the location though. I was thinking more of the place that is available next to Mungo's.

Digger - are you proposing an upmarket version of MuckDonalds?

Every place which has disposable cups, wrappings etc. usually ends up with locals in our town complaining about all the rubbish dropped around the streets by lazy slobs:roll:
On holiday we like to take leisurely meals, snacks at places like Imprevisto and would be very surprised if other people would like your suggestions??? Might be suited to office workers in a city but in my opinion for what its worth -not in Carvoeiro!!!

Hi,can i just throw in a few words for what its worth ..digger your dead right wev,e all seen places dead in the water for want of being 20 metres too far along the road ...location is worth any money...i knew we should have bought that apt over the ice cream shop...any body who thinks that getting into the service biz is just the job for semi retirement is crazy ..sorry lj...the hours are just so long ..remember its seven days a week..and when your staff ring in sick you do the job....as regards muckdonolds..the biz of biz is to make money..forget all else till your up and running..and lastly to quote yer wan that started the body shop when somebody said "but any body could do that" she replied "yes ,but i did"

That is so true Gerry. Everybody has dreams about things but it's another thing to actually do it.

I'm actually nowhere near retirement so this is something I am seriously thinking about.

And I realise it's going to be a hard slog but hey! What isn't!

So this is the story so far:
Need a good location
Need something everyone will like (fat chance)
Need to be profitable

Or alternatively, I could always carry on playing the lottery

But on a serious note, I've read all the posts about how things are difficult when it comes to paperwork, authorisations and licenses and how long the hours are, etc... However, if it's a viable idea, why not give it a try. After all, I am working all week here in London, travelling 2 hours each day and ending up to tired or fed up to go out, not to mention to broke because of all the taxes I pay. So if this works and I can get a little bit of enjoyment out of it and a nice glass of wine at the end of the day sitting on my terrace, I would be happy.

Oh and of course, the first ten board people to come and visit get a free juice!

Yes but research in America proves that in the quiet seaside towns of southern Europe take-away food outlets boost tourism by encouraging skateboarding, drug-taking and graffiti culture. Good news for the local economy.

HaHaHa....Whoops sorry that was only me messing around…and I do know what you mean…..I just though this is not just another café…. whilst saving on the washing up and not having to provide toilets….The whole enterprise would be very eco-friendly with organically grown meat, fruit & veg….recycled wrapping paper with printed instruction on how to keep cvo tidy……….

Yes, I agree with Digger.

It doesn't have to be a "fast food" place in the MuckDonald's sense of the term but it doesn't either have to be a restaurant.

A snack bar with choice and fresh juices. I think it sounds like a good idea but then again I might be biased.

I think there might be hope yet! Not everyone like Londoners. Some people have actually been taught what a bin is for.

(and I don't mean that as an offense to anyone but it drives me mad that people use my front garden as their dump!)

(of course, stuff may fly out of the bed as you move from place to place, but by time the trash lands in someone's front garden, you are long gone)

Morning guys!

I have just been updating myself on whats been going on in the Forum whilst I have been on my happy hols

I think that the idea of a juice bar/sandwich bar is an excellent idea. I often think that while on holiday it would be nice to find a decent sandwich bar to buy lunch and eat at my choice of venue i.e. beach, park etc. Unfortunately most facilities like this remind me of the pokey takeaway that I buy my lunch at work.

On holiday you expect to get something a little different and the idea of purchasing a sandwich/drink that is different and on fantastic bread really appeals.

I don't think that having a takeaway sandwich bar would cause too much litter in the street - remember most people are responsible in these matters - and I wish you all good luck in this prospective venture and that when I'm next in cvo I'll be buying my lunch at your establishment
