The GNR are aware (see previous post). If the "drugs" are herbs then what can they do? I think the GNR should be given the benefit of the doubt and given time to do what they can about this issue.

I have just read this in The Resident I know it doesn't appertain to Carvoeiro but the resort of Albufeira, it seems in the article residents complained about drug dealings to the GNR in 2010. Its taken them quite a while to make arrests but they have eventually had some positive outcome. So as others have said on the forum make your feelings known to the GNR, the more people that complain should surely lead to an investigation & get these lowlife scumbags off the streets before it gets out of hand. The negative thing about this article is the last paragraph the 2 main suspects held in custody awaiting trial but 8 suspects where released on bail pending enquiries. I wonder whether the GNR will ever find these 8 suspects when needed. I'm sure they will have fled the place for other climes.

A timely reminder of the dangers of drugs are that multi-millionaire married couple in London's Belgravia. For years, those two went to the most expensive clinics in the world to get cleaned and cured and they still could not get off these most highly-addictive dangerous substances. If all the money in the world could not help them there is not much hope for ordinary people and the hardship it brings their families.

These absolute drug-peddling filthy scum in Albufeira and in the CVO main town need severe sharp punishments for the devastation they cause.

Hi all,

Been away for a few days and just logging back in to see that my post has certainly received a lot of reaction and I'm delighted to see that its very positive and we all feel the same way about Carvoeiro. I see it was forwarded to the GNR, well done. I was going to take a posters advice and sent an email to them, which I will still do.
I really dont care if its only herbs or not, they are advertising themselves as drug sellers and if caught, should be punished as such. Of course this scourge is everywhere, especially here in Ireland with the recession, but in my 50 years, i have never once been offered drugs and yet 2 weeks in Carvoeiro, about 10 times. Wont stop me from coming back, but would hate to see it escalate and become a real problem.

This is what a local young resident told me:-

I have reported this to the police already two weeks ago when I was with a lot of Dutch kids. They were between 14 and 18 and the gipsy’s where trying to sell them drugs!!!!
The police told me there is not much they can do as they are not selling any drugs for it are only herbs…. But say they are going to do something about it! Probably the dog!!!!!!

It seems the "drugs" are harmless herbs!

This kind of thing has been a problem in most parts of the Algarve. My friend David Thomas has developed the Safe Communities in the Algarve Program which has worked very well in the Loulé area. There is some good information on the website - www.safecommunitiesalgarve.com . He is also an independant security consultant - www.iseca.net If anyone has any specific problems, he may have some very good advice.

a drug addict can only come off drugs when they want to come off them&they 100% want to do it&not just making a token gesture to apease those around them.

I would suggest that 90%plus of those on this forum have little experience of the current " yoof " drug culture.
Recreational drug taking is sadly just part of the life style of all too many .
On a recent flight out I had the misfortune to sit next to two lads heading for a weeks holiday in Albufeira hwhere they were meeting up with a large group of similar minded individuals
Drugs, where to get them and what type were part of their general discussion along with cheap drink and easy women.
There is even a shop in Albufeira selling drug paraphanalia and so called " legal " herbal highs.
Portugal and in partiicular the Algarve is one of the main routes for smuggling from N Africa , hence the level of naval sea and air activity.

Do you legalise pot. weed, whatever you want to call it , or just ignore personal use as in most of western society.
These guys would not be on the street unless there was a steady demand for whatever it is they are trying to sell.

i have had experience on drug culture from cannabis through to crack&heroin & i can tell you the ramifications of these evil drugs are catastrophic so it must be stamped out in carvoeiro or the place will go downhill quicker than a rolling stone.

Carvoeiro has been a holiday resort ( sometimes much busier than now ) for over 30 years.
I suspect that the " drug culture " is one form or another has been here for most of that time.
Some of the kids taking drugs now are the offspring of those who did the same thing when they were younger.
The difference now is that so called soft drugs are regarded by some ( including governments ) as not worth the effort to crack down on.,
I asked why the bars owners do not discourage this activity, there was no response from this sector, WHY ??.
When the kids go home so will the dealers and Carvoeiro will return to the place we know and love.
But who wants a year round dead village ??
If the dealers stop selling openly they will just find somewhere else to do it.

The question that should be asked is why are the kids using this stuff and what would it take to stop them.
This question has been asked since I was at school in the late 60.s and no one yet has come up with an answer or a solution.
Supply follows demand .
