Best Supermarket in Carvoeiro

Another vote for Pau de Acucar and Pingo Doce. I avoid Intermarche at all cost.

We spend 6 months of the year in Carvoeiro and often shop at Intermarche. We always visit on the way from the airport to collect essentials. We also often find our expat friends in there, so it must be doing something right. They have the best team of butchers that we have found in the local area, and they are really are helpful. For a change we also visit Pau de Acucar (Sugarloaf, from the mountain in Rio). Intermarche's main problem is that it is a relatively old supermarket, and could do with a new building. There was a rumour that they were going to build a new one, but I guess that has been shelved in the current economic climate. Unless someone has new news.

There is only one I avoid but only so that when I get home I don't have to tell anybody I was 'in Continente' whilst on holiday.

I know, our friends & family in the UK find this hysterical. We were chatting to the waiter in one of our regular restaurants & he said he'd been in Continente earlier that day, the friends who were staying with us at the time nearly fell off their chairs laughing, much to the waiters bemusement.
